The REAL reason For The Harmonic Convergence In The Mayan Calendar

The Harmonic Convergence is the name given to the world’s first globally synchronized meditation, announced by José Argüelles, and which occurred on August 16–17, 1987, which also closely correlated to an exceptional alignment of planets in our solar system.  The event had been predicted by author Tony Shearer in his book Lord of the Dawn (1971)[i].

In my previous essay Truths about the Mayan Calendar that nobody wants to hear one might mistakenly conclude that every gathering of spiritually minded persons has had nothing to do with the manifestation of the global cybercommons and its electronic thoughts (usually ‘tweets’).  In fact the spiritual impulse of the Harmonic Convergence was powerful enough to facilitate the full flowering of the Galactic Underworld from 1999 to 2011 and impulses like it have been absolutely essential throughout time for the scheduled development described by the Mayan Calendar.

The two previous examples are the German Reformation in the early 1500’s at the start of the 4^th pre-Planetary Underworld and Agriculture roughly 10,000 years ago at the beginning of the 4^th pre-National Underworld.

First let’s establish that agriculture is indeed a spiritual state of mind since it is not obvious unless you are one of the dwindling numbers of independent farmers.  Before the establishment of agriculture, tribes were comprised of hunters and gatherers who sustained their numbers by acquiring food that could be almost instantly obtained and consumed; one’s five senses were intimately involved in the process and thought about the next meal could be postponed to the point of hunger.  This all changed when budding civilizations came to depend on food stocks reliant on the passage of large amounts of time.  Those early farmers had to have enormous FAITH that it was not a waste of valuable time to prepare the soil, plant the seeds, fertilize, grow in ideal conditions of rain, sun, warmth etc in hopes that the seed would actually grow true for a harvest that might ultimately still require further processing to make edible for the population to thrive…year after year after year.  One failed harvest often meant starvation for the family, so that his genetics did not propagate.

Agriculture’s early converts were faithful people who had no Plan B.  This stands in stark contrast to the domineering, patriarchal consciousness that later developed during the National Underworld…and yet its full expression would have been impossible without the wealth accumulation and people control that agriculture later enabled.

The German Reformation is more obviously a spiritual event in history that paved the way for the total expression of the materialistic, technological, anti-spiritual mindset of the later Planetary Underworld.  This is revealed through the Protestant work ethic which could (in due time) deliver rewards, comfort and security in this lifetime instead of a short, miserable existence in exchange for dubious promises of a pleasurable afterlife.  Getting a large population to accept such a deal required a fatal blow to the authority of the Roman Catholic Church.  Also developed during this time period was the United States of America firmly rooted in the separation of church and state.

We come now to another apparently mismatched linkage:  The spiritually-intentioned Harmonic Convergence and the age of electronic cyber connectiveness.  The Harmonic Convergence was earlier described as ‘the world’s first globally synchronized meditation’.  Before this occasion meditation was essentially private or taught among small select groups which inevitably cost money to arrange.  Although certain ‘sacred sites’ were preferentially targeted during the Harmonic Convergence, location and/or association was not a barrier to being part of the experience…voluntary intention alone included one in the event.  This established for all time the validity and ‘authority’ of a global collective experience.

We take this ‘authority’ for granted these days.  How marvelous it is that Wikipedia — which can be edited by anyone — is an accepted legitimate source for research…or that strangers trust each other to engage in commerce through Ebay.  Who only consults books written by ‘experts’ today or only buys goods through corporations.  Alternative news on the internet (often produced by unknowns or anonymously) is crushing the readership and viewership of traditional news outlets.  We have open source code and free file sharing, Wikileaks and WebMD and Angieslist.  Somewhere along the line the world’s population got it into their heads that permission from established institutions to exercise mental freedom was no longer needed.  Before the Harmonic Convergence we didn’t believe it was possible, but now…Memo to the Old World Order:  We’ll take it from here…
