CIA implanted electrodes in brains of unsuspecting soldiers, suit alleges.

The government has been doing such work for decades. Check out a very related recent story: “Soldiers’ helmets to control brain activity.” Combine that story with the fact that the government has a huge history of doing experiments on both citizens and military with out the subject’s knowledge or consent, and you get a lot of reason to believe these allegations. This has simply become damned typical.

This recent case involves evidence, and stubborn refusal of a government agency to cooperate — which is also sadly typical.

Bruce Price, one plaintiff in the lawsuit, believes that MRI scans confirm that the CIA placed a device in his brain in 1966. “The CIA pursued such experiments because it was convinced the Soviets were doing the same,” The Washington Post‘s Jeff Stein noted.

In mid-November, U.S. Magistrate Judge James Larson ruled that the CIA must produce records and testimony regarding the experiments conducted on thousands of soldiers from 1950 through 1975.

“The CIA has already claimed that some documents are protected under the state-secrets privilege, but Larson said the agency needs to be more specific,” Courthouse News Service reported.
