Mystery missile caught on video near L.A.

Trail streaks across Southern California sky; Pentagon and Navy baffled

From DATELINE ZERO – A mysterious “missile” streaked across the sky off the Southern California coast Monday night and was caught on video by a local TV station’s helicopter camera. Magnificent images were captured by the KCBS news helicopter in L.A. around sunset Monday evening. The location of the missile was about 35 miles out to sea, west of L.A. and north of Catalina Island.

Now CBS and NBC News are reporting on the story, talking to Air Force and Naval officials, people at the Pentagon, and even NATO. The source of the launch is still unknown.

KCBS, which originally reported the incident, interviewed former U.S. Ambassador to NATO Robert Ellsworth after showing him the video. “It’s spectacular… It takes people’s breath away,” said Ellsworth, calling the projectile, “a big missile”.

“It could be a test firing of an intercontinental ballistic missile from a submarine to demonstrate, mainly to Asia, that we can do that,” he told the TV station, emphasizing that he was purely speculating. He said that it would be best to wait for a definitive clarification from the military.
