Why Do People Believe They're Vampires?

it’s because of the legends and folklores that had been passed on from one generation to another. almost all culture have their own versions of vampires even in the oldest ones (china, egypt, babylonia..). During the 17th-19th century(probably even earlier) , the era when vampire hysteria took its toll , some strange illnesses resulting to epidemic and the deaths of many, science still has no explanation about these illnesses and has not find their cure.

A lot of people were accused of being vampires, particularly the dead ones because of the hysteria and the poor understanding of science, especially how a dead body naturally decomposes. when graves were exhumed to find undecomposed bodies, growing hair and nails, seemingly bloated bodies and dark liquid (that looks like blood) coming out in the dead’s orifices such as mouth, ears and nose, everyone just concluded “that’s a vampire, let’s just perform magia posthuma!”.and as hollywood and some authors depict and even romanticise about them through films and books, it is engaging for some to believe they are real and do exists. So, even today, when we read about these stuff, we become fascinated for something extraordinary to happen and exist.

In my opinion, it is still a great part of our culture no matter how modern our time already is. when something cannot be explained, we still resort to superstitious beliefs instead of rationalizing these happenings in a realistic point of view.

yes, a lot of people believe to a great extent adapt a lifestyle, the so called vampire culture (drinking blood called sanguinarians, or suck up energy of some people, called psychic vampires), even modify their appearance to look like one. there are some sanguinarians who expose themselves to the public and explain how and why they chose such way of life. insane it may seem, but these type of “vampires” are living among us.
