Chick-fil-a Day: Legacy Under Fire

While I was sitting in line last night at Chick-fil-a I had a lot of time to contemplate, as would anybody who went.  As I sat in the drive thru line surveying the masses of people both inside and out I had the following thoughts.

Do you think S. Truett Cathy thought that his small business named The Dwarf Grill would flower into the fast food dynasty that they are today?  Furthermore, do you think that he would be surprised to know that the morality and life lessons he taught his son would go on to inspire a nation in 2012?

This is what I think.  I think S. Truett Cathy had a dream, an American dream.  His dream was to open a business and provide a life for his family.  I doubt the man ever thought that he would be the father of a private sector empire but when he opened up his first restaurant, The Dwarf Grill, he brought into existence a shinning example of what private and small business is capable of.  In 1946 in Hapeville, Georgia S. Truett Cathy made his dream come true.

I believe we are all going to leave a legacy, but it is up to us to decide what that legacy is going to be.  It is hard to be the person who stands up to conventional thought and holds to a set of values.  Being able to do this comes from a certain kind of courage, a courage that is instilled from father to son, from generation to generation.  I believe that Dan Cathy had the courage to say what he did because of life lessons he learned from his father S. Truett Cathy.

So what is his legacy?  The elder Cathy has not only built a franchise that from what I saw last night is loved the world over, he more importantly instilled in his children the moral fortitude and courage to stand up to those who seek to poison our country with talk of political correctness and bigotry.

I can’t really speculate why “Chick-fil-a day” was such a success but I can tell you why I decided to go and why I was proud to do so.  S. Truett Cathy and Dan Cathy represent the kind of legacy and example I want to leave to my own children when I have them.  The company is also a shinning example of what makes America great.

Chick-fil-a and Private Business Under Attack

Chick-fil-a is a privately owned and operated giant that was built from the ground up by ambition, hard work and honest practices.  Now outside of the recent attacks against them by the many gay and lesbian communities, Chick-fil-a as well as others are also under attack by the Obama Administration.

President Obama says that S. Truett Cathy didn’t build his business that someone else did, that the government had a hand in building his business.  But you see what the president doesn’t understand is that small business is more than just a means of prosperity, it’s a legacy passed down from father to son, a code of morality and a way of living a life that you and your family can be proud of.  That is why I support Chick-fil-a and that is why I can say, “No, Mr. President, you didn’t build that. Instead you are only helping to destroy them.”

So really it’s not about who is gay and who is not, or who agrees and who disagrees.  What really matters is that our way of life as Americans is under attack and we are being eaten from the inside out.  I stand behind Chick-fil-a for several reasons, not the least of them being that we agree on the issues.  Most importantly however is that I see Chick-fil-a and it’s founding family as a light that is slowly being extinguished by the hijacking of our culture.
