US And China Wage War… Against Green Energy
For decades US politicians have stood by the sidelines was industry after industry was destroyed by Wall Street profiteers who outsourced the US economy and the American republic overseas.
Nobody gave a fuck when the textile industry disappeared.
Manufacturing in American? Who needs that… we can just pay for slave labor in China. Oh, look at this awesome shirt I got for $1.25, I know it was made in China… but Isn’t it so cute.
Electronics, computers, IT, Automobile manufacturing, you name it. Industry after industry has been shipped overseas.
Most notably was the multibillion dollar GM bailout which was used to shutdown US auto plants so they could be opened, in guess where, China.
The latest example – CISCO has announced it has laid off 1,400 workers. But in exchange it created 1,300 new jobs in the emerging market of – guess where? China. As the CEO explained on Bloomberg you can’t just move the workers overseas, so this is how ‘cost-cutting’ must be done.
Yet, out of all of the rape and destruction of our economy which as I just noted continues to this very day where does the US draw the line?
Green Energy products. That’s right., Obama has decided to draw the line in sand against the Chinese dumping cheap solar products on the market.
2nd Round of Chinese Solar Tariffs Hits Hard
In May, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced that new tariffs being levied on Chinese solar panel imports will be almost 10 times high than previously announced – putting these new tariffs to around 35%. In March the U.S. Commerce Department announced that a 3-5% tariff would be imposed, but reserved the right to revise this figure before the final rule came into effect later this year.
These tariffs are the result of the unanimous finding by the U.S. Trade Commission last December, which stated that “there is a reasonable indication that a U.S. industry is materially injured by reason of imports of crystalline silicon photovoltaic cells and modules from China that are allegedly subsidized and sold in the United States at less than fair value.”
Under the new anti-dumping tariffs on products exported to the United States by Chinese solar manufacturers, products exported these companies will still face the 2.9-4.73% tariffs previously announced. But, 61 companies will face additional tariffs to the tune of 31.14% to 31.22%. Specifically, these additional proposed tariffs will look like this:
- Suntech Power Holdings Co. – 31.22%
- Trina Ltd. – 31.14%;
- 59 other firms – 31.18%.
These companies represent those that cooperated with U.S. investigation proceedings earlier this year. Those companies that did not cooperate face tariffs of up to 250%.

Fuck everything else that has been destroyed but don’t step the toes of our non-existent solar industry.
Or should I so, don’t dare try to create a solar industry.
Of course, Big oil and Wall Street certainly don’t have anything to do with the policy and if you claim they do you may end up like the two-tour of duty marine vet who is now being detained indefinitely by the feds for criticizing such government corruption.
More sickening is news reports like this propaganda peice Russia Today trying to spin the tariffs on solar products as a good thing.
Why You Should Care: Solar Panel Protectionism (E17)
I agree tariffs would be a good thing if they were being used to protect real industries that actual employ Americans but the fucking solar panels?
Who doesn’t see right through this?
How about some tariffs on clothing, so we can bring back out textile industry and put tens of millions of American workers back into the factories they belong?
Or electronics, so the US can go back to being the leader in that place instead of facing the ever daunting task of the military not being able to find US produced electronics?
So how does China respond?
They to are attacking the Solar industry to even further drive up the cost of renewable energy in the US.
They are now taking their case to the World Trade Organization because the United States subsidies for the solar companies are an illegal and unfair practice.
Again, China doesn’t give a fucking flying shit about corporate welfare being used to by their products… but oh, no… don’t you dare give out out cocorporate welfare to help make renewable energy cheap.
Here’s RT:
China claims US clean-energy violates WTO rules
China has claimed that US renewable-energy projects received subsidies from the government that violated WTO rules and served as trade barriers to Chinese exports to the US.
RT – China has claimed that US renewable-energy projects received subsidies from the government that violated WTO rules and served as trade barriers to Chinese exports to the US.
On Monday China’s Commerce Ministry named six renewable-energy projects in the US which received such subsidies, among them a solar-power venture in Massachusetts and a wind-power venture in Ohio, as well as in Washington State, New Jersey and California.
The investigation was carried out on behalf of Chinese exporters and renewable energy companies.
China is calling on the U.S. to cancel practices not in line with WTO rules. It wants the US to “give Chinese renewable energy products a fair treatment,” the ministry said on its website.
The US, in turn, has moved against Chinese-made clean-energy equipment.
The United States Commerce Department has announced a number of import duties over the past six months.
US renewable-energy policy has come under internal scrutiny during the presidential race. Republicans have criticized the Obama administration for what they call excessive subsidies to the industry.
Presidential candidate Mitt Romney said that if elected President, he would stand up to China on trade and demand it played by global trade rules.
China and the US have signed several cooperation agreements related to clean energy in the past three years. In 2009 they established a $150-million US-China Research Center to develop clean energy.
How loses in all of this? The consumer of course and the hardest hit are that bottom 50% of wage earners in the US in which a family of two people working minimum wage jobs can’t afford to make ends meet with the core problem being high energy costs.
Who wins in all of this? The bankers and big energy companies who get to keep their stranglehold on the entire energy supply ecosystem to continue filling their coffers at the cost of the consumer.
