First, I apologize for the camera shake.I was in a boat, very nervous, and trying to hurry….
The water level was low as is normal for this time of year, and muddy from a recent heavy rain.
This was my first sight of these methane gas under pressure bubbling sites down the bayou approx 1/2 mile from the homes on the south side of Hwy 70. Nothing I have seen on the news, or on the APPJ flicker photo site prepared me for what I saw going on. I was shocked, and so very heavy hearted after seeing what I saw. It was very chilling, knowing of all the gas under us, but also knowing of the massive (unknown location) voids in the earth.
There was a direct path of water coming from the sinkhole and draining in to the bayou at the pipeline row, and several others, none contained. Texas Brine and the other agencies seem to think that little boom they have at the sinkhole is enough. I disagree. The booms do not stop the saltwater. We saw only one small alligator in about 30 minutes, and lots of dead fish.
If there are this many bubbling sites in the water where they are easily seen, we can only dare to imagine how many are on land, and in the swamps between the sinkhole and the homes west of the sinkhole….that we don’t know of.

Really? Did you actually look at the venting? A bubble of gas in a marsh is no big deal. That however is not a bubble or two. I am not saying it is the end of the world, but, that is a lot of gas.
Methane is a component of natural gas which is the most abundant organic compound on the planet. No need to panic.

An abnormal concentration in one particular place though don’t you think? Keep in mind there are large quantities of methane being flared off all around this soak hole as well but yes there is no need for panic.
Not to bore you but methane is not a good explosive in it’s natural state even though It has high potential as a fuel. You wouldn’t want to be too close all the same. I am concerned how widespread the methane saturation is becoming.

The salt dome is collapsing and the oil and nat gas is seeping out. That is NOT natural methane. You people commenting obviously have no idea what is going on in Bayou Corne. It is a slow motion disaster.
I worked on landfill site’s some years ago. I remember a worker who was killed by Methane coming from the rotting waste, he had slipped into a ditch with high levels of the stuff. I hope the people who filmed this are aware of just how dangerous this gas can be.
City workers have died due to methane also.

Methane is toxic. Inhaling too many fumes can cause death. And while out in a boat on the water, if a large amount was to be released and numerous bubbles were to erupt it would not only sink your boat but drown you as well.
There is not a doubt in my mind that we have past a point of no return due to the damage that we have given our earth. Personally, I think Jesus will be coming back soon. But even if you look at everything we have done to destroy our Earth (you can’t keep taking things out from under our feet and expect everything to just stay in place….ever play Jenga?) it will eventually destroy us to keep herself alive. If you need another perspective, just pick up a world history book and look at how all the other large civilizations met their end; Soviet Union, Greece, Rome, Ottoman Empire. We WILL experience a BIG change in our lifetime; too many signs that people would rather ignore.
If a giant release of methane, or as scientist refer to it, DDF (delayed Dino farts), destroyed modern man the irony would be to much to take. Godzilla finally wins.
This still looks like a colossal man made event…it would not be the first sinkhole related disaster either.
