Warning About Car Door Locks

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Hole Under Door Lock

Wednesday, I approached my truck from the passenger side to place

my computer bag (aka my man purse) in the front passenger seat.

As I reached to open the door I noticed there was a hole right

under my door handle.

My first thought was, “someone has shot my truck !”

I began to think about it and inspect it a little closer and

the “light” slowly began to come on.

I phoned my friend who owns a body shop and asked if he had any

vehicles with damage to the doors that looked like a bullet hole.

“Yes, I see it all the time. Thieves have a punch and place it

right under the door handle, knock a hole through, reach in and

unlock it, just as if they have a key. No alarms, broken glass,

or anything.”

I then placed a call to my insurance agent and explained it to

him. I was puzzled that they left my GPS and all other belongings.

Here is where it gets scary !

“Oh no, he said, they want the break-in to be so subtle that you

don’t even realize it. They look at your GPS to see where “home”

is. Or check your address from Insurance and Registration in your glove box.

Now, they know what you drive, go to your home, and if your vehicle isn’t

there they assume you aren’t and break into your home.”

He said they will even leave a purse or wallet and only take one

or two credit cards. By the time you realize there has been a

theft, they may have already had a couple of days or more to

use them.

(I didn’t realize my situation for two full days!)

They even give you the courtesy of re-locking your doors for you.

Periodically, walk around your car, especially after you park

in a shopping center or other large parking area.

Report thefts immediately….your bank w/missing check numbers,

your credit card agencies, police, and insurance companies, etc.

Below is picture of what the hole looks like.

Hole Under Door Lock

One would have to look pretty darn close to notice a hole like that. If the

hole was on the passenger side I would never see.

They put a small hole right below where your door lock is and that’s subtle? Don’t tell me your selling car insurance now Barracuda?

    • capoprimo

Too much bother to knock a hole below the lock, besides it’s too noticable. Just use “slim Jim” and unlock the door, take what you want and re-lock the door. No one will know the difference.

Saw a U-tube Video using a toilet plunger to open the Lock.
Not to give anyone any new ideas.

      Clever buggers.

This is very good info…. I had this info around 9 months ago, and yet I found out there’s many people are ignorant of this.. Please keep all these info’s coming…..

If someone stole my credit card they would soon realize its maxed out.

@Anon… Yes putting a small hole below the door latch trim, on the non drivers side, is very subtle. Using a key would be more subtle; breaking a window is not subtle.

@capoprimo… a slimjim will only work on car doors that have the pop up type of manual release.

@Anon… I have tried the toilet plunger method to no avail.

Right. Another gang initiation urban myth. And if you flash your headlights while wearing one pant leg tucked in your sock, you’re a bloodcrip and they’ll cut your face off, mmm-kay?

Seems urban mythy too… For instance, if you have a GPS in the car, they need to power it up to get info off of it (like home). If it’s built in, that’s not an easy thing to start without power/key.

I always check out snopes.com on stories such as this. They list it as partially true and false. The issue is the claim that thieves are taking home info details. That is not proven. Visit:

What if you park your car in the garage? Thieves will not be able to tell if you are home or not. The other myth is squeezing air out of a tennis ball in a lock to open the door. Thats not true simply because niggas would be found all the time with tennis balls on them. Same idea with the toilet plunger – when was the last time a nigga was found carrying a toilet plunger?

    • BeePeeOilDisaster

If they carried just a small bit of bondo and filled in and smothed over the hole prior to leaving you may never even notice it…

My car door was unlocked by a professional when I loked myself out leaving the SUV run.
done by inflating what looked like a inner tube that was slipped in at the top of the Car door and inflated by a sqeeze Bulb allowing enough space to pull the Handle. All took no more than a Minute. Where there is a will there is a way
