Amazing Amelia Earhart Photos The World Should Never Forget

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Recently, it has been reported that sonar images from the ocean floor near Nikumaroro Island, part of Republic of Kiribati, an island nation in the central tropical Pacific Ocean, very well could be that of Amelia Earhart’s plane, a Lockheed Electra.

However, more research is needed before the images can be confirmed, potentially solving the 75-year-old mystery of Earhart’s disappearance.

The researchers who made the discovery, TIGHAR, also state that they have found several other artifacts that support the theory that Earhart and her navigator were forced to make an emergency landing on the island’s coral reef.

Nevertheless, until those images are confirmed, here are several images of Earhart that should never be forgotten.

A Picture Is Worth 1000 Words

Earhart was a natural born explorer. According to the image below, Earhart visited Carlsbad Caverns National Park and volunteered to participate in the exploration of the area known as the Bottomless Pit, a 140-foot hole which was once thought to have no bottom at all because the bottom was concealed by the darkness and covered in a layer of soft silt. These characteristics made the pit seem bottomless, especially when rocks were thrown in and made no sound.

Not only was she interested in the power of flight, Amelia Earhart was also intrigued by the sea. In this image, she is deep sea diving near Block Island, off the coast of Rhode Island. This photo is said to have been taken on July 25, 1929 and shows the lady adventurer in a dive suit ready to explore the waters near Block Island.

This photo was taken 12 years after her diving expedition, but just prior to her famous flight that led to her disappearance. She is sitting in the cockpit of her Lockheed Electra. According to the Pima Air and Space Museum, “First flown in 1934 the Electra entered service first with Northwest Airlines and served successfully with many domestic and foreign airlines.” (5) A number of these planes were purchased by the Air Force for use in World War II.

Earhart was considered to be a national treasure from 1928, when she made her first transatlantic voyage as a passenger. Upon her return to the United States, she (and the rest of the crew) was welcomed home to a ticker-tape parade. This first voyage launched Earhart to celebrity. The 1931 picture below represents that status when she arrived in Denver, Colorado in an autogiro. Upon her arrival there, she was received by a welcoming committee and a large bouquet of flowers.

Just like our modern-day celebrities, Earhart did not miss the opportunity to cash in on her new found status and many companies were ready to invest in her in order to capitalize on the love and adornment that the country felt for her. One example is the Lucky Strike ad campaign that ran in 1928, after her first transatlantic crossing.

The country was so in love with Earhart that when news of her disappearance hit it was front page news. The country was devastated, but hopeful that she would be found. However, those hopes would eventually be dashed when neither Earhart, her navigator, or the plane were found.

Recent Findings

The recent claims made by TIGHAR have rejuvenated the mystery of Amelia Earhart’s disappearance, and for many, have rejuvenated the hopes that the mystery might finally be solved.

There have always been multiple theories on what happened to her, but nothing has been confirmed. However, until it is solved the only thing we can do is to make sure that we do not forget about this national treasure and adventurer
