The Ghost Of Chris Dorner? 4 LAPD Shot in 1 Day

Four officers were shot in Los Angeles this past Tuesday causing a complete meltdown across the city. It all started early tuesday morning when two officers were ambushed as they were arriving back at the Wilshire substation located in the Mid City area. Both officers were wounded as they waited for a security gate to open. The officers were rushed to the hospital, and 25 square blocks surrounding the department went into lockdown leaving residents stranded for hours. What took place during this evacuation will likely trouble the public. Did the police enter people’s property without a warrant? Were people abused in the process of the evacuation/search?

The nature of this particular attack calls into question whether the shooter could have been connected to law enforcement. The cops were undercover, and directly outside the department waiting for a security gate to open. A prudent FBI profiler would note that it was undercover officers who were shot, not police employees or civilians. How did the ambusher know who they were shooting? A police department is a location most familiar to law enforcement. Why would someone fire at officers in an area comfortable to law enforcement unless they felt the same way.

But it didn’t stop there. That evening in South LA, two more officers were shot as they conducted an alleged “probation” search of a particular residence. One officer was shot in the face, and a probation officer’s leg was grazed. The suspected shooter surprisingly was not killed and taken into custody.

These separate shootings set of a tactical alert and put certain areas across the city in complete lockdown, as police evacuated and searched neighborhoods surrounding the incidents under the guise of “public safety”.

One doesn’t have to look back too far to see a living example of this type of martial law. .
This past April, Watertown MA went into lockdown as police and military searched for a young man who stands accused of participating in the Boston Marathon bombings. But how many more people were put in harms way by these emotionally engaged police officers?

Looks pretty bad eh? Well for poor neighborhoods across the country, this is something that happens everyday. Whether its a shooting, or a police pursuit, police often lockdown neighborhoods, putting everybody in the area at risk.

How can this be more dangerous than the person being hunted one may ask. Well this video taken on June 8th, 2013 in Oakland CA shows officers entering a property following a car pursuit, armed with AR-15′s without properly notifying residents of their intentions.
In this case the radio they were using to communicate to the residents and the suspect was malfunctioning. Yet they entered the property soon after. . .

Imagine taking out the garbage and running into a scared cop who has their rifle trained on you. Never a good outcome. . . .

This is not the first time four officers have been shot in one day in California. On March 21, 2009, Lovelle Mixon, an Oakland resident open fired on two officers during a traffic stop. What would happen next would have deadly consequences for all parties involved. Lovelle would flee down the block to his sister’s house, and a manhunt would ensue. Over the next couple hours, Oakland Police would enter the residence where Lovelle was hiding, and two more officers would lose there lives.

One will quickly say this was Lovelle’s responsibility and on some levels it was. But what about the repsoncibility of law enforcement to do their job safely. In this case, officers were not sure Lovelle was even in that particular residence. Instead of waiting for the Hostage Negotiation Team, as well as ambulances, snipers, and a canine unit, they entered the building and as a result two officers and Lovelle would die in a hail of gunfire.

In this case it was officers who paid the price for their hasty action, but that isn’t always the case.

This past February, Chris Dorner a former LAPD officer, began hunting down LAPD officers after being fired. He claimed to have faced racism on all level from fellow officers, and he felt he was wrongfully fired.

In the days to follow, LAPD in an emotional state of shock would open fire on several people thinking they were Dorner. The problem was that neither the vehicles, or the people matched Dorner’s description, or the vehicle he was driving

Police will often boast of the dangers of being a police officer. And while hunting, and chasing people who don’t want to be caged can cause some bruises and scratches, it is important to understand how much more of a threat police are to the public than the public could ever be to the police.

Police are roughly twice as likely to commit suicide as they are to die from on the job. Police are also more likely to kill themselves behind the wheel, then they are to die from on the job violence. Police don’t die at work often. Not like lumberjacks or sales people. Go check any study on America’s Most Dangerous Jobs and you will not see law enforcement there. So then why do police endanger the rest of us in the name of public safety? Could it be that these police actions have more to do with killing their suspect, then keeping people safe?
Food for thought. . .
