MSM: Don’t Worry About Spying, NSA is Just Doing Their Job

The Truth Behind The News

The national Security Agency (NSA) has been using brute force hacking techniques to break into Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and Secure Sockets Layer services (SSL) to destroy encryption protocols.

Edward Snowden, NSA whistleblower, has released details about the parameters by which the NSA has been trying to stay “ competitive in the spy-vs-spy world”.

Through the discovery of mathematical equations to assist in weakening cryptographic systems, supportive experts claim that “such fundamental mathematical research doesn’t constitute back doors or other covert agendas.”

It is asserted that “the NSA has discovered ways to crack these systems that have not been discovered by the smartest researchers in academia and industry. But there’s no law against clever mathematicians creating new encryption schemes.”

Snowden explained that the NSA and the UK GCHQ “have broadly compromised the guarantees that internet companies have given consumers to reassure them that their communications, online banking and medical records would be indecipherable to criminals or governments.”

Spending $250 million annually, the NSA collects “vast amounts” of “exploitable” data.

Their policy has been: “Do not ask about or speculate on sources or methods.”

Facebook, Google and Microsoft have been compromised by the actions of the NSA. This has created a wave of mistrust among the public and tech corporations.

The days of secure communications have gone to the wayside as documents provided by Snowden continue to show that the Obama administration has been working overtime to increase government spying.

The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) will meet this November t discuss how to take back the internet from surveillance agencies. The IETF believes they can “influence governance.”

A poll recently taken claims that “86 percent of Internet users have taken steps online to remove or mask their digital footprints — ranging from clearing cookies to encrypting their email.”

Taking more precautions, 14% of internet users admitted that that “used a service that allows you to browse the Web anonymously, such as a proxy server, Tor software or a virtual personal network.”

When the US government wants to have completely secure and anonymous communications over the internet, they use Tor.

Tor “is a network of virtual tunnels that allows people and groups to improve their privacy and security on the Internet. It also enables software developers to create new communication tools with built-in privacy features.” The service was originally designed for the US Navy by the US Naval Research Laboratory. Its “primary purpose” was to protect “government communications.”

Tor is now used by law enforcement, journalists, and activists, the US military and average citizens.

Tor is based on onion routing which is “made up of projects researching, designing, building, and analyzing anonymous communications systems. The focus is on practical systems for low-latency Internet-based connections that resist traffic analysis, eavesdropping, and other attacks both by outsiders (e.g. Internet routers) and insiders (Onion Routing servers themselves). Onion Routing prevents the transport medium from knowing who is communicating with whom — the network knows only that communication is taking place. In addition, the content of the communication is hidden from eavesdroppers up to the point where the traffic leaves the OR network.”

Field agents use this open source software to “mask the sites they are visiting, protecting military interests and operations, as well as protecting themselves from physical harm.”

When DARPA designed the internet “its primary purpose was to be able to facilitate distributed, robust communications in case of local strikes. However, some functions must be centralized, such as command and control sites. It’s the nature of the Internet protocols to reveal the geographic location of any server that is reachable online. Tor’s hidden services capacity allows military command and control to be physically secure from discovery and takedown.”

Tor also facilitates secure surveillance of targets and insurgents.
