INTERVIEW: Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s Mom Hopes Her Son Finds God SOON

Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s long-suffering mother has broken her silence about the recent arrest of her infamous billionaire son.

Maria Consuelo Loera Perez was recently interviewed about El Chapo, one of her 11 children, and she urged him to find God soon.  This is Doña Consuelo, as she is known by her family, first interview in nearly a decade and the first since the February 22 early morning arrest of her son.

Loera Perez was interviewed by Univision where she reaffirmed her love for her son regardless of the decisions he has made in his life and the direction his life has taken.

“I am his mother and he will always be my son. I will always be his mother,” the widow said. She did provide some life advice to her 56-year-old narco son, “He already experienced what is out there in the world, so now he has to look for God, because God is the only one that can protect him and help him sort out his problems.”

The mother of 11 has experienced the loss of five of her children several to drug violence.  Son Arturo Guzman Loera, a trusted lieutenant of El Chapo, was killed in 2004 by members of the Gulf Cartel and Miguel Angel Guzman Loera was arrested in front of his mother at his sister’s Quinceanera.

In the interview she noted that though she raised her children they are the ones who ultimately decided the direction to take in life.

Loera Perez was married to Emilio Guzman Bustillos, an alleged opium poppy grower.  The family is related to the narco pioneer Pedro Aviles Perez, with whom El Chapo started his drug trafficking career.

The 86-year-old grandmother lives quietly in the same town El Chapo was born: Sierra de Badiraguato in La Tuna in the state of Sinaloa – the state her son put on the map for drug trafficking.
