Fukushima Links To Am. Brainless Infants Surge

By Deborah Dupré

Anencephaly is a living nightmare haunting Washington state pregnant women and new mothers due to a surge of babies there born without parts of their brains and skulls. Doctors, media and friends, however, are not telling that what these women are experiencing was predicted and is covered up: a nuclear hell on Earth from Fukushima.

Anencephaly is one of the most devastating diagnoses expectant parents can receive during pregnancy.

In 30 years, Sara Barron saw in her medical arena only two babies with anencephaly, a tragic birth defect in which infants are born missing parts of their brain and skull. In 2012, while working at a hospital in rural Washington state, she saw two cases in two months. Barron’s “shocking discovery” prompted an investigation by the state health department, that showed in 3 counties, in a 3-year period, 23 cases of anencephaly were recorded, 4 times the national average.

Seeing that many cases in such a small hospital seemed “bizarre” to Barron, but not at all bizarre to scientists who predicted miscarriage and birth defect surges in Washington due to Fukushima fall out. What seems bizarre and infuriating to them is the neglect and cover up involved, what might be idenitifed as criminal neglect.

In an exclusive 2011 interview with Deborah Dupré, Joseph Mangano, Executive Director of the Radiation and Public Health Project, predicted American women, particulalrly those in Washington and California, would pay a high price for government and media cover-ups and deception related to Fukushima radiation. (Exclusive: Expert: Americans will likely pay for Fukushima radiation deception, Dupré, 2011)

Mangano studied the link between low-dose radiation exposure and subsequent risk of diseases such as cancer and damage to newborns.  Government and its controlled media, however, repeatedly told the public regarding Fukushima that “only trace levels” were detected, even as the miscarriage rate surged 35% in Washington state alone in 2011.

In a study of survivors of atomic bomb tests, the most common defects were seen at birth. Anencephaly was the first in the list of those birth defects, (Birth defects among the children of atomic-bomb survivors (1948-1954, Radiation Effects  Research Foundation, Japan)

Investigation Cover-Up

Mandy Stahre, with the Washington State Department of Health, conducted an ”investigation” into the anencephaly high rates, claiming she and other investigators are “stumped.” Perhaps they would not be as stumped if in their “investigation,” they spoke to the mothers and people such as Joe Mangano, whose research team predicted such horrors three years ago based on scientific data.

“We have not found an answer, and that’s a very frustrating part, because this is such a devastating diagnosis for a woman to have,” Stahre told CNN.

Barron said she wondered if state health authorities did not find anything because they didn’t look hard enough at all possible causes, adding, ”We have to weigh how invasive we want to be.”

She admitted the health department failed to speak to any parent of babies with birth defects. Elizabeth Cohen, CNN senior medical correspondent confirmed the state hasn’t spoken to a single family member with babies with birth defects. Also failing to speak to researchers, such as Mangano and other nuclear and radiaiton experts, the state naturally failed to connect obvious dots between miscarriages, birth defects and infant death surges and Fukushima fall out, despite this was exactly what was predicted through careful analysis of available data soon after the nuclear meltdown.

Andrea Jackman, whose daughter Olivia was born with spina bifida, another type of neural tube defect, said she wasn’t asked anything by state investigators: ”Nobody’s asked me anything,” she told the network.

So, how did the state conduct its investigation? Stahre said investigators examined data in each parent’s medical record — prescription drugs they were taking and preexisting medical conditions.

“The study examined medical records from Jan. 2010 through Jan. 2013 and looked at possible risk factors including family history, pre-pregnancy weight, health risk behaviors such as supplemental folic acid and medication use, and whether the woman’s residence received drinking water from a public or private source,” said a health department press release. “No significant differences were found when comparing cases of anencephaly with healthy births in the three county area.”

CNN’s Elizabeth Cohen reported, “two key considerations for this type of birth defect.” They also don’t have details about radiation spikes that have occurred particularly in Washinton State since the Fukushima catastrophe began. Do they also not have details from ultrasounds, blood tests or amnicentesis? “Anencephaly is often apparent on the ultrasound by the second trimester, but the first clue might be abnormalities in the alphafetoprotein blood test.  Amniocentesis might be used in the diagnosis as well,” as anyone would know from a simple Google search and seeing reports such as those at About.com. “An anencephaly diagnosis is unlikely to be a false positive.” How many women were advised their fetus showed signs of anencephaly, so opted to abort?

The health department’s press release even admitted: “Medical record reviews might not have captured all information, preventing a cause from being identified.” So why not talk to the mothers?

“Well, we have to weigh that,” said Stahre. “This is a devastating diagnosis, and we know that for a lot of these women, they had to make some hard choices. We do have to weigh about how invasive we want to be with these types of reviews.”

At least one mother, Jackman, said she’d have ”been fine” with being questioned. Like most mothers with babies with birth defects, she wants answers so that other mothers don’t have to go through the same thing.

The whole news item is a sham. A year ago, mainstream reported anencephaly was spiking: ”A high rate of birth defects has confounded Washington health officials, who have been unable to identify a cause.” A report by Washington State Department of Health reported neighboring counties of Yakima, Benton and Franklin had unusually high number of pregnancies affected by the birth defect anencephaly…” The horror was also ”baffling.”

Dr. Joanne Stone, director of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, said in 2013 that anencephaly can be caused by “a combination of genetic and environmental factors” and the increased cases in the northern west caost area was worrisome. No mention about radiation, a most common causes of anencephaly.

“The interesting thing with this study is that they looked at different factors, and women’s histories, and obesity, and at medical history and couldn’t find anything that stood out,” said Stone. “Could it be a fluke? We don’t know. It could take time to uncover some sort of [unusual] exposure.”

Anencephaly, a birth defect, is almost always fatal. Neural tubes in the fetus do not close properly. A result is that the forward part of the fetus’ brain is not developed and the other part is exposed to amniotic fluid, further damaging.

Most fetuses born with the defect are stillborn. Those who survive to birth usually die shortly after born. Most women miscarry fetuses with anenephaly, according to Dr. Melissa Stoppler. As noted above, there has been a spike in miscarriages in Washington state.

ABC News authors of that article go on to blame the victim, the mother, for insufficient B-vitamin, then recount that, and never mention the obvious: the radiation link.

In the 2010 Gulf of Mexico region’s post-BP-oil-Corexit poisoning of millions of people, media was silent and doctors gagged from telling about the miscarriage surge and other health issues, still causing untold and inhumane suffering there. (Vampire of Macondo) The nuclear industry is no different in that respect: Hide health issues and continue to profit financially with impunity.

Safe Low-Level Radiation Myth

A The New York Times article by Matthew Wald reported, ”Some researchers argue that all humans are regularly exposed to a low natural level of radiation, and that it is not harmful when below a certain threshold, although fetuses may be an exception.” (Emphasis added)

How could Washington mothers know how much they and their fetuses and babies were being radiated from Fukushima? The multiple Fukushima nuclear reactor meltdowns increased radiation in United States air, water and milk, yet the EPA shocked many, including independent scientists, when it quit reporting Fukushima radiation levels from daily to every three months, according to Mangano. Officials claimed from the start of the Fukushima meltdowns that the radioactive plume traveling from Japan to the U.S. contained “harmless” “trace” levels of radiation, but no proof existed for that advisory according to Mangano, MPH MBA.

In fact, there is no safe level of radiation, as independent scientists and reporters such as Thom Hartmann (in the video report below) have repeatedly warned the public. The US government, however, has a superb track record both for lying and not protecting its citizens. Although the United States spends billions on medical care, as of 2006, the US ranked 28th in the world in infant mortality, over twice that of the lowest ranked countries. (DHHS, CDC, National Center for Health Statistics. Health United States 2010, Table 20, p. 131, Feb. 2011.)

“You have to conduct studies first, before declaring whether this radiation is or isn’t harmless,” said Mangano. ”The EPA should continue to monitor levels on a daily basis. It’s hard to believe they folded down while the meltdowns continue.”

Regarding Fukushima radiation not harmful to Americans, “We need to be asking, Where’s the ‘proof?’ – because there is none,” Mangano has asserted.

Radiation has 100 to 200 individual chemicals, each radioactive, each cancer causing, each doing something different to the body — now in the US food, milk, air and water supply. Fukushima radiation is getting into the environment through precipitation, the rain according to Mangano.

“When radiation gets into the food supply, it gets into the body,” he said, a statement the health officials and news reports are still failing to emphasize.

The first radiation plume from Japan took less than a week to reach the U.S. according to Mangano. In the week following, he concluded EPA data showed levels in air and precipitation about 20 times higher than typical levels. By examining historical EPA data, Mangano showed Fukushima radiation levels in Americas’ air and precipitation was in the same ballpark as when the Chernobyl plume entered the U.S. in 1986, and when fallout from above-ground atom bomb tests in China in 1976 did the same.

After Chernobyl, there were unexpected increases in U.S. infant deaths, infant cancer cases, and babies born with a variety of defects - all attributable to radiation exposure.

By 2011, American babies had already begun dying at a 35% increased rate in eight northwest U.S. cities, evidence supporting the spike was from Fukushima meltdowns’ radiation, according to  Mangano.  He had strongly asserted that Americans would pay a high price for government and media cover-up and deception related to Fukushima radiation due to government and media telling them only trace levels of radiation from Fukushima were in their air, food and water and that these were harmless.

Government and media are still denying the truth to women about Fukushima radiation. Nobody suffers a birth defect or miscarriage as much as the mother. Nobody else can fathom that grief.

“Women in the United States will now have a special commonality with Japanese women in terms of suffering spontaneous abortions and infant deaths,” Dupré wrote in 2011.

Mangano and Sherman emphasize that a CDC Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report indicated that northwest U.S. cities Boise, ID; Seattle, WA; Portland, OR, and northern California cities Santa Cruz, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Jose, and Berkeley –  each reported data on deaths among those younger than one year of age including:

4 weeks ending March 19, 2011 – 37 deaths (avg. 9.25 per week)
10 weeks ending May 28, 2011 – 125 deaths (avg.12.50 per week)

“This amounts to an increase of 35% (the total for the entire U.S. rose about 2.3%), and is statistically significant,” Mangano had written. Of further significance is that those dates include the four weeks before and the ten weeks after the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant disaster.”

Killing the America’s Most Vulnerable

That was three years ago. Fukushima’s radiation has been falling over the US ever since then, bio-accumulating in humans – and on the grass eaten by animals, such as cows, that supply the milk women and their children drink to “stay healthy.”

Lack of American public outrage over Fukushima radiation, including among environmentalists and human rights advocates, is as disturbing as EPA denying public access to reports, media complicity, and lack of accurate information about fallout that has traveled thousands of miles from Japan to the U.S.

“Even the anti-nuclear side has been relatively quiet,” Mangano said.

Are Californians safe? “Hell no!” Mangano exclaimed. ”The numbers may have dropped… but the meltdowns are still not controlled, and may not be for months. Plus, there is still Japanese fallout in our diet – and any radiation is harmful. We need a good system of sampling food.”

Over 100 radioactive chemicals are not found in nature, only produced in an atomic bomb explosion or when a nuclear reactor operates.

“We need more frequent studies on how much is getting into American bodies, and whether it is harmful,” he re-emphasized.

“We need to measure the actual levels of isotopes in the environment and in the bodies of people exposed to determine if the fallout is killing our most vulnerable,” say experts have since the Fukushima catastrophe began.

Instead, women are non-consensual human experimentees. US Government and its complicit media abuse and neglect involving Fukushima radiation are nothing short of crimes against humanity.

Need another reason to impeach Obama and imprison both him and Hillary Clinton? Here it is. One’s been as bad as the other regarding radiation poisoning America’s most vulnerable. Oh while at it, get Kathleen Sebelius, too – or is she hiding too well after all she did to covertly murder the masses?

Deborah, don’t forget the Hanford plant in Washington state. This is the most highly contaminated place in the united states and this ‘home grown’ source is far more likely a cause of any radiation-induced birth defects (if that is what they are) than what is/has come across from Japan.

Thank you! Wow. I’ll look into it more. The symptoms surely seem to be more radiation related than anything else. And the miscarriage rate soared only after Fukushima. So, unless Hanford was leaking a lot more all the sudden after Fukushima, its plume would seem more suspicious.

The other thing is that Oregon has had miscarriage spike, too.
