Louisiana Sinkhole: 'Forgotten Bayou, Life On The Edge' Movie Trailer

The movie trailer of Forgotten Bayou, a documentary film about a small, resilient, Cajun community, living on the edge of the Bayou Corne, Louisiana sinkhole, has been released with the buzz of its director’s plans to submit the film to Sundance Film Festival .

Forgotten Bayou explains Louisiana’s on-going disaster under leadership of million-dollar oil man Gov. Bobby Jindal, and how the disaster has deeply affected homeowners as they struggle to cope, and move on with their lives.

Of the original 350 residents, only 25 presently live in the community, despite risks of the sinkhole that first appeared August 3, 2012. A mandatory evacuation remains in effect, explosive and carcinogenic gasses still bubble in the bayous, and the over almost 30-acre sinkhole continues to grow.

“Target completion date is October 29th as we are submitting to Sundance Film Festival along with others,” stated Victoria Greene in an email Saturday. “And we just received early commitment from an A list actor to be our narrator and as odd as I finish the script the contract will hopefully be signed.”

The film follows four families as they share their stories.

The bustling petrochemical industry has co-existed with Bayou Corne and Grand Bayou communities and Assumption Parish for years. It is as much engrained in the area’s culture as crawfish, shrimp and Cajun music. The sinkhole, however, is but another industrial accident that has occurred in recent years, destroying Louisiana’s beautiful wetlands and causing the death of this pristine, peaceful community.

Forgotten Bayou illustrates importance of communication and involvement between citizens and industry so that when the next accident occurs, misunderstandings and fear might be abated and the communities might move on.

“Thank you for all of the love and support,” Greene said.
