Mississippi Tea Party Leader Possibly Suicided? Attorney Mark Mayfield Dead In Midst Of Thad Cochran Photo Scandal (Video)
(N.Morgan) Embroiled in scandal and publicity, Tea Party Leader Attorney Mark Mayfield was found dead of an apparent suicide. News report state he was in the middle of a photo scandal involving photos of Thad Cochran’s wife in a nursing home. Mayfield was an attorney and the vice chairman of the Mississippi Tea Party. He was charged, along with two other men, of planning with conservative blogger Clayton Kelly to capture pictures of U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran’s sick wife in a nursing home bed. They planned to use the pictures in a political ad against the senator. Elementary school teacher Richard Sager and John Mary were the other two people involved in the conspiracy to gather the pictures.
Mayfield, Sager and Mary were all charged in May, with only Mayfield and Sager actually being arrested by police. Mary was not taken into custody due to medical conditions. All three were charged with felony conspiracy. Sager was also charged with felony evidence tampering and Mary with two counts of conspiracy. The apparent invasion of Mrs. Cochran’s privacy may have hurt the Tea Party’s candidate, Chris McDaniel; he lost the runoff to Cochran, the longtime incumbent, on Tuesday.
