The Messiahship of Jesus, however, is a more complex topic, since they don’t really believe in the concept to begin with, but they recognize Him as a prophet (as you’ve said) who will return to judge the earth, along with the 12th Imam.
These aren’t my beliefs (i am a Christian, non-denominational), but it IS theirs.
For some reason I can’t reply to you straightdopes, but no Muslims believe that in order for God to have impregnated Mary, God would have had to have sex with her, which they believe is blasphemous. And there is nothing complex about the messiahship of Jesus, because the messiah is God’s only son sent to redeem humanity, which they simply don’t believe. But my primary concern is dreamwalker’s apparent attempt to unify the beliefs of Christianity and Islam with a misleading list of things we can all agree on. We simply don’t agree, one is right and one is wrong. It’s really that simple.

either way, i DO feel that whatever fosters understanding between the two faiths is a GOOD thing – ecumenicism is something else, altogether.

And what is a prophet? A prophet speaks the word of God. There is only one prophet and that is Jesus. Jesus warned about worshipping dead prophets and instead stick to the living word he spoke. The word will live forever. There are false prophecy in all Abrahamic religions. Jesus said we are all God’s children if we walk the same way as him. Hating Moslems is not the way of Jesus. Reach out a hand and come to peace. What was christianity in the beginning? Did Jesus worship christian saints? Did he speak the words of all the prophets in the christian church? Is it still a monotheic belief? Jesus prayed to one God, that was his heavenly father.
If you hate other people, it is because you have a different Father. Spread Jesu word and follow his acts. Ask what would Jesus do in this situation. Hate your brothers and sisters and say you are a christian, but you are not a jesus follower.
I am not trying to unify any religions. By saying Jesus is the only true prophet, I think i might be excluded. But I believe in a rapture and I believe all false prophets will fall. That includes John and the end time prophecy, maybe not John, but the teachings of the church. I believe Solomon fell because of a broken heart. I believe Moses failed to reach his promised land because he and the Israelites did ten major mistakes, which came clear through the commandments. But not clear enough until on the death bed. I believe Jesus fulfilled the covenant by keeping the commandments and we were supposed to follow his example, and thats where we failed. We followed false prophets and their prophecy coming true because of that. We failed to follow Jesus, and when we do we are hated. I guess God finds us easy to predict…
