Troops to guard Belgian Jewish sites as Europol warns of further attacks ~ link ~ It is interesting that Jewish sites are being guarded.  The ISIS/al-Qaeda terrorists are NOT attacking Jewish/Zionist/Israeli sites!  Stirling   

Europe remained on high alert as soldiers were deployed alongside police in Belgium to protect Jewish buildings and the head of Europol warned that further terrorist attacks could not be ruled out in the wake of the murder of 17 people in Paris by Islamist gunmen last week.

The move to guard potential targets in Antwerp’s Jewish quarter on Saturday was the first time in three decades that Belgian troops have been used to bolster police ranks. It follows the deployment of French soldiers following the attacks in Paris.

More than 20 people have been arrested in Belgium, France and Germany, and Belgium has joined France in deploying troops alongside police. Security has been tightened in several countries after attacks just over a week ago in Paris left 17 people dead.

There are increased concerns about the return of young Europeans who have gone to fight with Middle East militants.

Europol chief Rob Wainwright said stopping every potential attack was “extremely difficult” but vowed that the police were “engaged” in their battle against terrorism.

Speaking after last week’s deadly rampage in Paris, which left 17 people dead, Mr Wainwright told Sky News: “We are dealing with a very serious threat spread around many European countries and propagated by thousands of suspects radicalised on the internet and through conflict experience in Syria and Iraq.

Soldiers fanned out to guard possible terror targets across Belgium Saturday, including some buildings within the Jewish quarter of the port city of Antwerp. It was the first time in 30 years that authorities used troops to reinforce police in Belgium’s cities, and came a day after anti-terror raids netted dozens of suspects across Western Europe. 

In an interview broadcast Saturday on Belgium’s VRT network, Belgian Defense Minister Steven Vandeput said soldiers could be deployed to protect certain embassies and some buildings within Antwerp’s Jewish quarter. Belgium has increased its terror warning to 3, the second-highest, following the anti-terror raids of Thursday which left two suspects dead.

Europe is in a state of high alert after anti-terror raids netted over two dozen arrests. UK police have raised threat level to ‘severe’ fearing attacks similar to the one narrowly averted in Belgium, while Brussels has deployed troops to guard key sites.

The security beef-up in Britain to the second-highest level of five comes after a Thursday raid on an extremist cell in Belgium revealed an imminent plan to attack police officers. British authorities say a similar attack may be in preparation in UK, the British media reported.
