(Before It's News)

Holding back tears as she was wheeled through a line of saluting officers, Philadelphia police Sgt. Sylvia Young was released from the hospital Tuesday where she received treatment after being shot multiple times during a shooting rampage last week.

Young was the first of six victims targeted by Nicholas Glenn. Glenn fired a total of 18 shots at Young as she sat in her patrol car Friday night. She was struck in the shoulder, arm, and torso. Multiple rounds became lodged in her bulletproof vest and at least one round struck Young’s service pistol, disabling it. Officials called Young’s survival nothing short of miraculous.

Another officer was shot during an exchange of gunfire with Glenn, but he is expected to make a full recovery. Three others were injured, though not critically, and a 25-year-old woman was shot and killed by Glenn.

Eventually, officers corned Glenn in an alleyway, where he was killed in an exchange of gunfire.

The 19-year veteran of the force will face months of rehab before she’s able to return to work, but officials said the police presence as she left the hospital, and subsequent escort to her home, was meant as a show of support.
