The Russian president issued the chilling warning to a group of journalists as he attempted to explain the reasons behind his country’s actions in recent months.
Maintaining a steely exterior, Mr Putin discussed the potential start of a second Cold War and warned the world is in “grave danger”.
He said: “Major global conflicts have been avoided in the past few decades, due to the geostrategic balance of power, which used to exist.
“The two super-nuclear powers essentially agreed to stop producing both offensive weaponry, as well as defensive weaponry.

Mr. Obama:
I am alarmed about the situation in Syria. Only one mistake by an overly zealous major or lt. colonel could easily start WW3. Your agenda seems to be that you want to go down in the history books for a diplomatic success like Kennedy had in 1962.
You need to come to terms with these realities:
1. It is not 1962. It is 2016. The world has changed since 1962.
2. Syria is not Cuba, which is only 90 miles off our border.
3. You are not John Kennedy, or anything close to his standard.
4. The Russians are simply not going to back down from their stand in Syria. Period. Do you understand this? Why can’t you grasp this fact?
5. If you keep pressuring the Russians like you have been, the situation could easily turn into WW3. If that happens, your daughters will grow up in a nuclear wasteland. Do you really want this? The Russians really can be pushed too far.
6. The USA’s best interests do not lie in forcing Assad from power. Who cares who governs Syria? Let him alone. He is the democratically elected president of a sovereign country. You cannot issue one of your “out of bounds” executive orders to sweep him from power. This is so typical of hypocritical democratic mentality and thinking: you espouse democracy, but only as it applies to leaders that meet your approval.
7. Word is out that the war in Syria is to secure a clear route for a petroleum products pipeline from eastern Arabia and Qatar to Europe. An alternative route is that they can run their pipeline from Arabia to Port Said, Egypt. The products can be shipped over the Mediterranean without having to go through Syria. Did the Bilderbergers and Super-Rich order this war? Whom are you working for, anyway?
8. The USA needs to join forces with the Russians and Assad to oppose ISIS and Al Qaeda. The Islamic radicals are the real enemy here, not Mr. Assad. Why can’t you understand this?
You need to back down, Mr. Obama. Don’t do anything to burn this country in a nuclear conflagration for any reason. You are only the president for a little more than three months. Don’t abuse your power in what time is left.
