(VIDEO) YEMEN: Houthi Militia Hit Saudi Battleship in the Red Sea

The Houthi militia fighters mounted a successful attack against a Saudi Arabian military warship off the western coast of Yemen in the Red Sea on Monday. 

The Saudi vessel, Al Madinah, was stuck while on a scheduled patrol in the southern Red Sea when the attack occurred.

The attack is reported to have killed two sailors and wounding three others, according to U.S. officials.

Local media reported that the Saudi frigate was patrolling a section of the Red Sea west of Hodeida. Reports by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) have alleged the ship was hit by “three suicide boats belonging to the Houthi militias.”

Predictably, western and Gulf media outlets are reporting the event as “Iran-backed Houthi rebels” attacking the Saudi warship, in an ongoing public relations effort to paint the war as an Iranian affair, and also to distract from the fact that Saudi Arabia is waging a personal war on Yemen which has already claimed the lives of over 10,000 Yemenis, while wound 40,000 others, and creating over 3 million internal and external refugees in and around Yemen.

This incident comes amid a backdrop of increasing US involvement in the illegal war against Yemen.

FOX News reported earlier:

“In October, U.S. Navy warships came under missile attack by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in the same area of the southern Red Sea just north of the Bab al Mandab Strait.

For the first time in history, a U.S. destroyer successfully shot down incoming enemy missiles using SM-2 missiles in the October attack.  

Days later Tomahawk cruise missile launched from the USS Nitze destroyed the Houthi radar installations responsible for firing on the U.S. warships.”

In addition, earlier this week, US JSOC reported that Navy SEAL Team 6 carried out a raid supposedly targeting some 14 Qaeda fighters in Yemen. US official say that one US Commando was killed in the operation. Allegedly, the brother-in-law and 8 year old daughter of American-born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki are believed to have been killed in the US action.

Saudi Arabia, backed, equipped and assisted in the field by the United States and the UK, began waging an illegal, undeclared war of aggression against its neighbor Yemen in March 2015.
