3 Foods That Promote Healthy Lungs

Pistachios

Pistachios don’t provide the same direct lung cleansing benefits the way many herbs do, but they’re still important to anyone interested in improving their lung health. Studies suggest that pistachios may help prevent lung cancer [1]. They contain a special type of Vitamin E, known as gamma-tocopherol that can possibly offer a certain level of protection against some forms of lung cancer. More research is needed to prove this conclusively, but, either way, these delicious nuts still provide a spectrum of benefits.. Pistachios are also thought to help lower cholesterol. Raw pistachios are the best choice and make a great, regular snack. It’s easy to snack on raw nuts and experience satisfaction without empty calories or the weight gain that comes with them.

Plantain Leaf

Plantain is another food that can help cleanse your lungs. Plantain Leaf, which is a popular food wrap in Cuba and other Latin American countries, is not seen in the mainstream in North American. However, you can find it, and I would recommend using plantain leaf makes as a very tasty wrap around a number of foods. A quick online search for “plantain leaf recipes” will bring up items you should try. As always, avoid recipes that call for processed sugar or flour, use organic or locally grown, vegetables and hormone free foods as ingredients.

Cayenne Pepper

Eaten both as a foodstuff and used as a seasoning, these popular peppers can contribute as many as 17 health and wellness benefits to the body. They have been known to help suppress irritating coughs and sore throats and help with indications of cold and flu. Cayenne pepper helps break up and move congested mucus, making it a recommended food for anyone who is suffering from bronchial congestion or respiratory ailments.

What I found that protects my lungs is quercetin dihydrate, but I seem to need more than 250 mg per day, so I take 400 or 500 mg per day to stay protected.
I don’t take colds or flu if taking enough quercetin and it gives me energy. SwansonVitamins has Swanson’s 250 mg “Quercetin & Bromelain,” so I take 2 capsules mornings. I tried decreasing the dose to 1 capsule daily and I got the sniffles within a month. Swanson also carries the NOW brand “Quercetin and Bromelain” which is 400 mg quercetin per capsule. I took one 400 mg NOW capsule mornings for 2 years and I never got sick or the sniffles at that 400 mg intake level either.

I found it’s still necessary to liquefy or thin lung and sinus mucus. A level half teaspoon per day of the 14 herb Mrs. Dash Table Blend seasoning starts to clear the lungs and sinuses within 2 weeks. Increasing the dose doesn’t seem to increase the results. I just put it in mouth and wash down with water.
Of the several Mrs. Dash flavors, only the Table Blend clears mucus for me and it has for decades. I buy the large size (6.75 oz) at Walmart but it usually comes in the 2.5 oz size at most groceries.
My throat was hoarse last Fall and I couldn’t clear my throat. I started taking the Mrs. Dash Table Blend and my throat cleared the same day. I noticed that increasing my cheese/dairy intake increases mucus for me, but I still eat dairy but maybe not every day which gives the mucus a chance to clear.

For breath or lung volume, I found that two 500 mg capsules of marine phytoplankton mornings increases my breath or lung volume, probably due to plankton’s RNA content. Plankton also increases what I call my life force. In other words, I don’t think I would ever want to stop taking plankton. I buy it at PhytoplanktonSource.com from the Netherlands and it takes about 3 weeks to be delivered to the U.S.

These are three supplements that affect my lungs but mostly the quercetin and Mrs. Dash Table Blend keep my lungs and sinuses running smoothly.
