In a press conference hosted in Stockholm, Sweden, prosecutors announced their decision to end the preliminary investigation into sexual misconduct charges dating back to 2012. Assange has spent the past 5 years holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy in London after seeking asylum there after UK courts agreed on his extradition to Sweden under a European Arrest Warrant. His lawyers have declared today’s decision a “total victory for us”.

However, it is being reported on BBC News that Assange may be arrested by police for jumping bail in this country. Thankfully for Assange, that charge doesn’t carry the same weight as the accusation he faced in Sweden. Prosecutors did say that if Assange returns to Sweden before 2020, then the preliminary investigation into the sexual misconduct allegation may be re-opened.

But is Assange truly free?

Lets look at what is happening in the USA, and to President Trump. One might think that if any one had reason to be grateful to Julian Assange and his Wikileaks website, but that is far from the case.

Despite, in my opinion and that of many others, Assange publishing the leaks from the DNC which in turn ruined Hilary Clinton’s chances of ever being elected, Trump & more so his Attorney General Jeff Sessions seem to be out for his blood.

Trump may well have once been quoted as saying “I love Wikileaks”, just recently flip-flopped on that and said it was “OK with me” when asked about Jeff Sessions wanting to bring charges against the Wikileaks boss.

In April of this year, The Independent reported….

US officials have prepared charged seeking the arrest of the Wikileaks founder. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has told reporters that securing the arrest of Mr Assange, who has been living in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London since 2012, is a priority.

“We are going to step up our effort and already are stepping up our efforts on all leaks. This is a matter that’s gone beyond anything I’m aware of,” said Mr Sessions.

Perhaps its just that I read to much into things, but if i was Mr Assange, i would be very wary when taking those first tentative steps to freedom. It might just be that the Swedes have dropped the charges to allow the US to get there hands on him.
