President Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Could Be A Possibility

It looks like The Rock, who’s real name is Dwayne Johnson, could be looking for votes.  He’s thinking of running for the president of the United States.  Would you “Rock the vote?”

The wrestler-turned-actor, recently famous for his role in the animated movie, Moana, made a few political comments during an interview with GQ.  Those comments lead many to ponder a potential presidential run by the actor. Johnson said that there is a real possibility he’d run because he’s upset at president Donald Trump’s travel “ban.”  He thinks he would create an inclusive environment founded on the principles of American values, like “cooperation.”  Johnson is just one of a handful of people wanting to make a run for the White House, and as he said, this last election cycle proved that anything is possible.

Johnson has spoken previously about a possible career in politics and said that he began to consider the prospect of a presidential run after reading an article in the Washington Post that suggested him as a viable candidate.  “A year ago it started coming up more and more,” he said. “There was a real sense of earnestness, which made me go home and think, ‘Let me really rethink my answer and make sure I am giving an answer that is truthful and also respectful.’”

Johnson also said he was approached by both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump’s campaigns and asked to endorse them.  So far, he’s stayed away from declaring his political allegiance emphatically, but he is a life-long registered republican who has attended some democrat events as well.  But he has so far, refrained from making his political affiliations mainstream, especially during the last election cycle.

“I feel like I’m in a position now where my word carries a lot of weight and influence, which of course is why they want the endorsement. But I also have a tremendous amount of respect for the process and felt like if I did share my political views publicly, a few things would happen. I felt like it would either make people unhappy with the thought of whatever my political view was. And, also, it might sway an opinion, which I didn’t want to do.”

Although he tried not to criticize, he did say he didn’t like Trump’s travel ban.

“I completely disagree with it. I believe in our national security to the core, but I don’t believe in a ‘ban’ that bans immigrants. I believe in inclusion. Our country was built on that, and it continues to be made strong by that. And the decision felt like a snap judgment … Within 24 hours, we saw a ‘tail effect’. It grew to heartache, it grew to a great deal of pain, it grew to a great deal of confusion, and it had a lot of people scrambling.”

But he also said that a disagreement is no reason to shut a person out of the conversation.

 “[If I didn’t agree with someone] on something, I wouldn’t shut them out. I would actually include them. The first thing we’d do is we’d come and sit down and we’d talk about it. I [would] take responsibility for everyone. Especially when you disagree with me. If there’s a large number of people disagreeing, there might be something I’m not seeing, so let me see it. Let me understand it.”

This is not the first time The Rock has stated his desire to run for president either.  In a Vanity Fair interview back in November, just days after Donald Trump’s election, Johnson said he couldn’t rule out a run for president in 2020. He’s also hinted a run on Twitter after reading an article about himself, and why he should run.

Could Johnson’s cool and calm demeanor propel him into a position of power?  Will he choose to run against Donald Trump in 2020 as an independent?  As his fans wait with bated breath, the consensus is that he could not possibly be as bad as Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump – the choices we faced back in 2016.
