Former NBA player Dennis Rodman certainly loves attention which is easy to see in his eccentricity on perpetual publicity stunts. After being largely out of the limelight for some time, Rodman reemerged this week to defy travel warnings and return to North Korea to visit his nuclear weapon-loving leader friend, Kim Jong-un. Although this is his fifth trip to the tightly controlled country that hates America, it’s his first since his former Celebrity Apprentice boss has been President of the United States and on the brink of war with North Korea.

Rodman is not exactly the person any country wants representing them in peace-making relations, especially when tensions are as high as they have become between the U.S. and North Korea. American warships are parked at Kim Jong-un’s door and the pint-sized communist leader has just announced this week that he is only “one step away” from launching a nuclear missile that could hit America, a statement which experts back up, according to The Sun. However, the former basketball player who strangely became friends with Kim in years past thought he was the guy to “open a door” between the two countries when his ignorance on the issues backfired on arrival.

Before landing in North Korea’s capital, Pyongyang, on Tuesday, the NBA bad boy was stopped in Beijing, China, on his final flight transfer. Wearing the best diplomatic duds he could come up with for the trip — a black T-shirt advertising marijuana cybercurrency used to buy and sell legalized pot — reporters swarmed him to ask a few questions before entering this dangerous territory.

When asked about his intentions with the trip, Rodman played it down while proving that despite what he says, he’s there for the apparent attention and is travelling where he was told not to go as a private citizen. “I’m just here to see some friends and have a good time,” he told reporters.

“Rodman received the red-carpet treatment on his four past trips since 2013, which generated a lot of publicity – most of it not good – and did little in terms of diplomacy. On this trip, he has already been roundly criticized by some for visiting during a time of high tensions between the U.S. and North Korea over its weapons programs and recent missile launches,” KMOV reported.

Knowing what he was about to go into, as one of the only people who personally knows both nuclear-armed leaders, a reporter in Beijing asked the NBA star if Trump knew about this particular trip.Well, I’m pretty sure he’s pretty much happy with the fact that I’m over here trying to accomplish something that we both need,” Rodman said. The obvious dangers he faces in going there ever, but at this particular time, is that he could be held captive and tortured like several other Americans have recently. When asked about his fellow Americans currently detained and if he’s concerned about them or the same happening to him, his response was simply that it’s “not my purpose right now.”

In a surprising twist that just broke this morning, North Korea released an American student hours after Rodman got there, according to American Military News. While it may seem like the sports star was a peacemaker in this deal, the dictator has ulterior motives in this move. Perhaps it was done to send a message to Trump to say that someone as ridiculous as Rodman has more power than he does. Sadly, the released student appears to be in a coma upon release today, Fox News reported.Rodman better make North Korean prison his purpose because things are not the same as they were the four previous times he went there. He could quickly and easily be used as his “friend” Kim’s tool to taunt President Trump into submission, by holding this useful idiot hostage.

“We are aware of his visit. We wish him well, but we have issued travel warnings to Americans and suggested they not travel to North Korea for their own safety,” U.S. Undersecretary of State Thomas Shannon told reporters in Tokyo when questioned about Rodman’s dangerous whereabouts, after discussing the missile threat in North Korea right now.

“Any visit to North Korea by a high-profile American is a political minefield,” KMOV reports. “Rodman has been criticized for failing to use his influence on leaders who are otherwise isolated diplomatically from the rest of the world. He has generally brushed off such criticism as unfair because as an athlete and celebrity he shouldn’t be expected to solve difficult political problems.”

Tillerson: North Korea releases US college student

WASHINGTON (AP) — North Korea has released Otto Warmbier, an American college student who was serving a 15-year prison term with hard labor for alleged anti-state acts, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Tuesday.

The U.S. announcement that came as former NBA player Dennis Rodman was paying a return visit to Pyongyang.

“At the direction of the President, the Department of State has secured the release of Otto Warmbier from North Korea,” Tillerson said in a statement. “Mr. Warmbier is en route to the U.S. where he will be reunited with his family.”

The Washington Post, citing Warmbier’s parents, reported that he had been medically evacuated from North Korea in a coma, and was due to arrive home in Cincinnati on Tuesday evening. The report said he had been a coma for more than a year, since shortly after his last public appearance at his trial in Pyongyang in March 2016.

The Associated Press could not immediately confirm that information. Warmbier’s family did not respond to calls seeking comment.

The statement by Tillerson, which he later  read Tuesday morning at a congressional hearing, offered no other details and made no mention of Rodman’s visit. Tillerson said the department would have no further comment on Warmbier and his condition, citing privacy concerns.

But he noted that the State Department is continuing “to have discussions” with North Korea about the release of other three American citizens who are jailed there.

A North Korean foreign ministry official said Warmbier was released and left the country Tuesday morning.

The official, who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because no formal statement had been released, said he could not provide further details.

It was not immediately clear if Rodman’s visit to North Korea was purely coincidental with Warmbier’s release. Rodman has traveled to the isolated nation four times previously and is one of few people to have met both North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and President Donald Trump. Speaking to reporters in Beijing before his arrival in Pyongyang on Tuesday, he said that the issue of several Americans detained by North Korea is “not my purpose right now.”

In March 2016, North Korea’s highest court sentenced Warmbier to 15 years in prison with hard labor for subversion as he tearfully confessed that he had tried to steal a propaganda banner.   SOURCE
