After Wife Dies, Man Builds a Pool for Neighborhood Children

It’s always the right time to be a good person and to be the positive change you wish to see. That’s evident when we take a look at what 94-year-old Keith Davidson did to alleviate the silence in his home after his wife died.

Davison had been married to his wife for 65 years.  A retired judge from Morris, Minnesota, Davison missed having his wife’s companionship and grew to dislike the silence he now constantly lived in.  But, instead of complaining about it forever, he decided to add laughter back to his life by making children happy.  So Davison built the neighborhood kids a pool.

Davison’s wife, Evelyn “Evy” Davison, died after losing a battle with cancer in April 2016 at 90 years old, just four days before their 66th wedding anniversary. “You just can’t imagine what it’s like,” Davison said. “You cry a lot. That’s just the way it is because she’s not here.”

Now his backyard is filled with the squeals and laughter of kids enjoying their summer-long pool party. Davison listens to the kids play in the pool and keeps them safe by asking that they have a parent or grandparent with them.  His age likely makes it difficult for him to safely play the role of lifeguard.  Davison completed the 32-foot pool with a diving board and a nine-foot deep end.

Davison, who has a daughter and two sons but no grandchildren, has become somewhat of a surrogate grandfather to the local kids. He loves making children happy.  “It’s him spreading joy throughout our neighborhood for these kids,” neighbor Jessica Huebner told KARE.”

It’s never too late to be a good human being and do something kind for someone else. Davison put smiles on the faces of children, and in return, got a summer full of laughter rather than the silence he grew to dislike.
