RNC Chair reprimands Jeff Flake with “cautionary tale”

RNC chair Ronna Romney McDaniel takes Flake to the woodshed for anti-Trump rhetoric. AZ GOP chairman Jonathan Lines remains mute

Readers of the AZ GOP’s Daily Updates, which inanely bills itself as “The Only Official Newsletter of the Arizona Republican Party!” — a jab at the fact-filled and widely read MCRC Briefs — would think everything was copacetic within the party hierarchy.  But a growing rift, evidenced by a stinging reprimand from on high was revealed Monday.

Speaking with Laura Ingraham on her nationally syndicated radio show, Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel issued a strong warning to Arizona Senator Jeff Flake.

McDaniel reminded listeners that three Republican senators who didn’t support Donald Trump during his victorious presidential campaign, lost their own races. Addressing the negativity Jeff Flake has continually lobbed at President Trump, she said the defeats suffered by  vocal opponents, Mark Kirk (Illinois), Kelly Ayotte (New Hampshire), and Joe Heck (Nevada), should serve as a “cautionary tale” to Jeff Flake, who already has the lowest approval rating of anyone in the 100-member U.S. Senate.

Flake’s newly released 140-page anti-Trump pamphlet passing itself off as a book, with a title directly lifted from Barry Goldwater’s 1960 transformative “Conscience of a Conservative.,” will not endear Flake to conservatives as he faces reelection in 2018. The book like its author is hypercritical of the Republican President. Among the other Republicans he skewers is former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. In an outrageous  ‘pot calling the kettle black’ scenario, peacock Flake refers to Newt Gingrich as a “character with extraordinary talents for self-promotion” Flake, who adds blond streaks to his hair, grins inappropriately to appear amiable and has sent out shirtless photos of himself, knows a thing or two about self-promotion.

McDaniel said the RNC usually stayed out of primaries but under the party’s bylaws could intervene if a number of RNC committee members agreed it was necessary.

“They need to have another candidate that they supported and the three RNC members that have to agree on that other candidate for rule 11 to apply, but it is in their bylaws,” McDaniel said. “It’s just interesting from a party standpoint, we do have governance. We have 168 members that they make those decisions. Sometimes you get in the nitty gritty, but I will say if you look at 2016, the senators that did not support the President, and let’s look at Joe Heck and Kelly Ayotte, they fell short in those Senate races, so there is a cautionary tale there because voters want you to support the President in his agenda.”
