Hurricane Irma became a Category 4 storm Today, according to the National Hurricane Center, which said “preparations within the warning area should be rushed to completion.”
Tropical-storm force winds are expected to arrive in the hurricane warning area by late Tuesday.
Irma is expected to affect the northeastern Leeward Islands as a “dangerous major hurricane,” accompanied by life-threatening wind as well as storm surge and rainfall, according to the NHC.

While the news media is focusing on Florida, longer range forecasts (as I write this) show the situation as potentially even worse. The 10-day ECMWF (very good) forecast shows Irma hitting southern FL and then moving northward along the coast, finally heading inland somewhere around Savannah or Hilton Head. -Although all nations states need to be on alert of approaching as forewarn this ministry of pending monster disasters, I too believe Irma’s impact will be more along the eastern seaboard.
