The free market will do what the free market will do.  As patriotic Americans continue to fume at the NFL, burning their expensive Jerseys, jackets and other team merchandise and as the league’s ratings experience a 17% loss in viewership, there are opportunistic marketers who have eagerly rushed in, to fill the gaping entertainment vacuum.   In true marketing fashion, leave it to league owners from other venues to capitalize on the NFL’s failed opportunity to one-up Trump and their chance to satisfy the ravenous crouds with their own brand of bread and circuses.

It has been observed that, as the lust and passions for delicious foods and entertaining spectator sports rises among the multitude, a comensurate rise in subtle tyranny takes flight as well, powered by the thoughtless drone of the pacified and apathetic masses.  History is replete with examples which show that, in return for full bellies and entertainment, people willingly give up their political responsibilities and therefore their power.  And, of course, those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeate it.  By these practices and enticements the ancient dictators so successfully lulled their subjects under the yoke, that the stupefied people, fascinated by the pasttimes and vain pleasures that flashed before their eyes, learned subservience as naively but not so creditably as little children learn to read by looking at bright picture books”
