Major Warning! Imminent Dam Failure, California Moccasin Creek (Video)

March 22, 2018: The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for a possible Dam break in south central Tuolumne County on Moccasin Creek until 2:15 PM Friday
At 2:17 PM, dam operators reported the imminent failure of Moccasin Dam on Moccasin Creek.
At 2:51 PM, radar indicated a line of strong thunderstorms located in the Mother Lode from 10 miles northeast of Cooks Station to Arnold to Carson Hill to Tuttletown.
Movement was east at 25 mph. Winds in excess of 40 mph and dime size hail are possible with these storms.
Locations impacted include Sonora, Calaveras Big Trees Sp, Vallecito, Black Springs, Shriner Lake Campground, Jupiter, Springfield, Dorrington, Avery, Forest Meadows, Mountain Ranch, Rail Road Flat, Groveland-Big Oak, Tuolumne City, Murphys, Mi-Wuk Village and Twain Harte.
Very heavy rainfall is also occurring with this line of storms and may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Brief funnel clouds are also possible with this line of storms.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning southwestern Tuolumne County until 4:45 PM. Heavy rain is likely during the nect few hours in this region with the likelihood of flash flooding, mud flows and debris flows.

Dam Break ‘Imminent’ On Moccasin Creek In South Central Tuolumne County
TUOLUMNE COUNTY (CBS13) – A flash flood warning has been issued for south central Tuolumne County on Moccasin Creek after the operators of Mocassin Creek Dam today reported the dam’s imminent failure.
Flood waters will move down Mocassin Creek to Don Pedro Reservoir, and as a result, facilities downstream of the dam along the creek, including the Moccasin Point Campground, have been evacuated, according to a National Weather Service statement issued Thursday afternoon.

Highway 49 will continue to be affected by the flooding due to outflow from the emergency spillway. Highway 120 may be impacted.
The town of Moccasin is above the dam and will not be affected.
