Yellow Jacket Flying Jaguar Salmon 2, ©Rose De Dan www.ReikiShamanic.comWhile dining outside earlier this week enjoying my bagel with smoked salmon, capers and cream cheese, a yellow jacket landed on my thumb. Apparently he had invited himself to breakfast.

Bracing himself against my thumb he began to carve off a piece of the smoked salmon for takeout. Once he had his takeout tucked safely underneath, he proceeded to bite off some more salmon for his immediate dining pleasure. I had to smile at his eager enjoyment—I could clearly hear the sound of his mandibles as he chewed.

Finally, with as much stowed away as he could carry while flying, he took off with his prize piece. I think of the yellow jackets as the flying jaguars of the insect world, so I wished him happy hunting.

Yellow Jacket Flying Jaguar Salmon1, ©Rose De Dan www.ReikiShamanic.comYesterday a yellow jacket joined me for lunch. At the time I was enjoying a grilled cheese, which did not interest him at all.

I kept getting the impression that he was looking for the lox, so I went inside and carved off a small piece which I placed on my plate (yes, that design was the actual one I was using for my lunch).

He must have spread the word—next thing I know we are having a party. Several yellow jackets showed up and began carving off lox steaks to take with them. Apparently the lunch menu was to their taste, after a few trips with their takeout the flying jaguars departed, leaving behind a clean plate and a delighted hostess.
