Animal Reiki Faces

Rose De Dan, Wild Reiki and Shamanic Healing LLC, is a mesa carrier in the Peruvian Andean Medicine Tradition, Reiki Master Teacher, animal communicator, author and artist. In practice and in partnership with her companion animals, Rose offers private sessions and ceremonies for humans and animals, and teaches classes and workshops in Reiki and shamanism in Seattle, Washington.

After almost two weeks on the road and in ceremony with lots of animals and people (A Walk on the Wild Side: Answering the Call of the Wild), I returned to consensual reality (my teaching and healing practice), where sadly I had a few tech issues to sort out. One involved getting my computer to resume backing itself up to the “cloud” (and I don’t mean the Wind People, lol). For that I needed help from a tech guru, who connected with my computer remotely.

As the cursor on my screen moved around (seemingly on its own), I had time to reflect that computer diagnostics and energy healing have something in common—much that happens is unseen and little understood by the vast majority of folks.

My tech guru made the comment that I had a huge amount of photos that were going to take a long time to backup, and it was clear from the tone of his disembodied voice that this was out of the ordinary. He followed that up with the comment, “But that’s what you do, right?” My immediate reflexive thought was, “No, that’s not what I do—I’m an animal Reiki shaman and animal communicator.” To me photographers are folks who know f-stops and other such technical matters inside and out, and who make their living selling photos to places like National Geographic.

And then it hit me. Photographers tell stories with images. I do that, just a wee bit differently. While taking photos I combine my Reiki shamanic and animal communication skills to connect with and engage my subjects, encouraging them to open up and share who they are and what they are experiencing—all while the scope of my visual field is no larger than the lens of my camera. (And sometimes with the sacred Buffalo Blanket on my back.) I then use the resulting photos to illustrate the stories I write—many of which happen while all of this is taking place.

I AM a storyteller in the oldest sense of the word, as that is how teaching stories are passed down, but this animal Reiki shaman now has the benefit of some very modern technology to get those stories out to as many folks as are willing to listen or SEE the messages from the animals.

And so, without further ado, I present a few faces of Reiki in short story form as presented by the animals and gathered by this ReikiShamanic photographer.

Reiki Tiger Face

Almos is a Royal White Bengal tiger who lives at Cougar Mountain Zoo and he really loves Reiki. When I come visit he not only tries to lick the energy off my hands, sometimes he tries to delicately nibble it off as well (there is a mesh barrier between us otherwise my hands would have no skin, his tongue is very raspy). This is his after-Reiki face—the “I am now supercharged with Reiki energy and need to scent-mark how happy it makes me feel” face.

Reiki Buffalo Face

This photo was taken during recent A Walk on the Wild Side at Earthfire Institute. You can tell by the expression on buffalo Bluebell’s face that she is clearly enjoying the attentions of her herd of people, many of whom are Reiki practitioners. Bluebell is a Reiki sponge!

Reiki Komodo Dragon Face

Komodo Dragon Selat is a senior, and as such has some aches and pains. He always says “yes” to Reiki when I ask if he would like some. This photo captured the yawn that expresses the relaxation that he is experiencing from the distance Reiki.

Animal Communication Face

I took a day off to go the the Woodland Park Zoo to reconnect with old friends and make the acquaintance of some new Zoo Animal Ambassadors. I really wanted to see the new Snow Leopard cub, but he was occupied with nursing at the top of the hill when I stopped by.

Later that day, as I was getting ready to leave, I passed by the back of the enclosure which is well screened with trees, and something made me look up. There was little snow leopard Aibek watching the world go by below his aerie. I started talking to him, telling him how cute he was, and how well loved. He gave me his full attention and I was blessed to be able to get one good photo. Welcome, Aibek!
