Hell of Ijen by 尤金尼 • Evgeny
Sulphur workers work around 8–9 hours a day. It’s impossible to work more. First, they are gased by poisonous sulphur gas, while trying to chip away sulphur that melted first, dripping from pipes laid there in 1968, and solidified with time. I’ve been there, in the gas cloud. I wanted to cry, but my eyes won’t open. I was wearing a mask, but the gas was so strong, I couldn’t breath and could only cough. I was on the edge of a mine when the cloud enveloped me and consumed me, and I couldn’t think of anything, but to jump, jump somewhere. It’s a living hell.
