6 Weird Cell Phone Facts You Need to Know

To be honest, it’s difficult to remember a time without them. As many as 91% of US adults own and regularly use their cells–that’s a crazy amount of people!

However, with that being said, do you know how to use your cell phone as well as you think you do?

1. You Can Scan QR Codes Without an App

At one point you had to have a specific QR code reader app installed on your phone. But all you need to do these days is point your iPhone camera at the QR code and it’ll scan automatically.

If you have an Android instead, your phone will have a similar feature. Just open the Google App, enable the screen search, and focus it on the QR code.

Then select the notification that’ll take you to the website (as you would on your iPhone).

2. You Can Create Custom Vibrations

We speak for most of us when we say that the majority of us have our cell phones on us permanently.

However, in some social situations, it’s not appropriate to have them out. For example, the movie theatre, a date, a catch up with a friend, etc.

So, in situations like this, you can customize the vibration patterns of your phone. That way you’ll know whether the call’s urgent or not. Pretty cool, huh?

If you have an iPhone, go into your setting and hit “Sounds & Haptics.” Then select either ringtone or text tone (whichever one you want to personalize). Then, at the top, there will be an option for “Vibration.”

Select this and then scroll down until you find the “Custom” options. Hit that, and then you’ll be able to “create new vibration.” Once you’ve done that, you can assign your new vibration pattern to specific contacts.

That way you’ll always know who’s calling or messaging!

3. Search Photos by Category

Do you have a ton of photos on your camera roll? If so, it can sometimes be difficult to lay your hands on a specific one.

Just type what you’re looking for into the search bar at the top of your Photo app. For example, if you’re on the hunt for an adorable snap of your pet pug, just type in “dog.” Hopefully, your desired photo should re-surface.

4. Find out What’s Wrong with Your Car

There’s nothing more frustrating than having something wrong with your car and not wanting fork out hundred dollars on a mechanic. Then when you do, you realize the issue isn’t fixed!

Select that and place your phone relatively close to your Apple TV. This should prompt you to enter your AirPlay passcode (sometimes that won’t be necessary, so don’t worry if it doesn’t).

Then, switch over to whatever you were watching, kick back, and relax!

Luckily, for all of you Android lovers, you can do the same (providing you have Chromecast or a Chromecast-enabled device).

Fun Fact: You should be able to do this even if you don’t have an Apple TV by utilizing a third-party app. For example, Reflector and AirServer work similarly to the above description.

6. Walk Home with Peace of Mind

It’s never pleasant to walk home on your own in the dark. Sadly, these days you can’t be too vigilant!
