How to Turn Your Trailer into the Ultimate Camper

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Are you looking forward to camping or hunting this summer? While a good old tent and sleeping bag may be the traditional way to go, many people opt for the comfort that an RV offers.

But RVs are expensive. Depending on the model and features, you could be spending upwards of $100,000 on a new RV! So, how can you enjoy the comfort of an RV at a more affordable price tag?

A cargo trailer camper is a great alternative. By remodeling a trailer, you can fully customize it to meet your needs at a cheaper price than a new RV.

Do you want to know how to do this? Keep reading to learn how to turn your trailer into the ultimate camper.

Create a Plan

Are you excited to roll up your sleeves and get to work? Not so fast! First, you need to take plenty of time to create some cargo trailer conversion plans.

Think about what you’ll use your camper for – solo hunting trips, family vacations, or adventurous dates. Then, think about what you need in a camper, what you’d like to include, and what is just extra. Write all this down on a list and get to work!

Using scaled measurements, decide where the important stuff will go first – this may include your bed, shower, toilet, and cooktop. Then, think about where to place the stuff you’d like, such as a special gun rack or microwave. Finally, see if there’s any room for things you can live without, like a TV or video game console.

Come up with a few different cargo trailer conversion plans and pick the one you like best. Then, consider materials and color pallets before getting to work.

Do the Electrical Work

Once you buy one of the trailers for sale in NH, the very first step of your remodel will be handling the electrical work.

If you want to include a microwave, toaster, television, video game console, or anything else that runs on electricity, you’ll need to plan your electrical work carefully. Make sure the outlets are in convenient locations and there’s enough of them to go around.

Don’t forget – you’ll probably need to charge your phone or plug in a hairdryer at some point, so you may want to add an extra outlet or two if possible.

If you aren’t sure you can handle the electrical work, you may want to hire a professional to ensure everything is done correctly.

Do the Plumbing

If you enjoy taking long trips (or even weekend trips) you’ll also need to have some sort of plumbing.

Now, this doesn’t always have to be complicated. Composting toilets are a great way to give yourself the luxury of your own bathroom without the need for black water tanks or hard plumbing.

Sinks and showers will require a little more work (although there are some ways to simplify it). Be careful where you place your water tank – you’ll want to find a place where it doesn’t throw off the balance of your camper.

Install Ventilation

Phew! Take a deep breath – the hard part is over!

The next step is a simple, yet important one: installing ventilation. You may be wondering “but I included windows in all my cargo trailer conversion plans. Isn’t that enough?” Well, not quite.

Windows are a great way to let fresh air in, but proper ventilation is vital to maintaining proper air flow. Without it, you may find that your camper smells a bit stale. Plus, you probably won’t want your windows open all the time, like when your driving or when it’s raining.

These small vents help ensure air is circulation even if the windows are closed. Plus, installation is easy, and small vents can be purchased at reasonable prices.

Figure Out Your Sleeping Situation

The whole point of a camper is to give you a place to sleep, right? While a shower and cooktop may seem important, having a good place to sleep should be the most important thing.

The good news is that there are so many different options that can work into your cargo trailer camper. Perhaps the easiest is to create a cot. While this is simple, it will take up a fair amount of room in your camper.

If you think you’ll need more room, you may choose to create a murphy bed or loft bed. Murphy beds give you the ability to push the bed against the wall when not in use. Loft beds in campers will have support beams coming down but the entire area below them will be open for whatever you need.

Pick Your Flooring

Flooring is the most permanent design element of your cargo trailer camper, so choose it wisely. If you like to traipse through the woods and aren’t afraid of mud, you’ll likely want something easy to clean and lightweight – such as linoleum.

Linoleum flooring has come a long way. While it’s not as durable as other options, you won’t need it to be – you only use your camper a few times a year anyway. It also very versatile. You can get linoleum in all different patterns and colors, so you’ll be sure to find one that matches your decor.

Dec it Out

Alright, now that all your basics are complete, it’s time for the fun part – decorating your camper!

You may start by painting or adding wallpaper to your walls. Then, add all the finishing touches to make this the perfect camper, such as rugs, curtains, posters, or weird houseplants. This is what will really bring your camper to life!

How to Achieve the Ultimate Cargo Trailer Camper Remodel

If you like to spend your summer weekends in the woods, you may want to invest in a camper. While they offer a cheaper alternative to an RV, they will require some elbow grease.

Your strategy for achieving the ultimate cargo trailer camper should include a good plan for electrical, plumbing, ventilation, and flooring installation, as well as adding a bed and final touches.
