Degrees of Love is an astounding depiction of love, marriage, family and what life could be if different choices were made.

The main character, Susan is a determined, self-confident, successful woman who thinks that she has everything in life. She is a dedicated wife and mother to her two boys. As demanding as having a career and running a household is, her husband, a quiet, uncommunicative, perfectionist man under appreciates her. Over time he demeans her and emotionally abuses her.

Susan was happy, spirited and friendly when she first met and married her husband, Matt. But soon after they were married things went downhill. She was forced to give up the things she enjoyed. No more acting or living in New York. Instead, she settled in the boring and silent town of Simi Valley. Although she has everything going for her in her career and her love for motherhood, an emptiness has settled within her.

Then Susan meets her new boss Reese Kirkpatrick, and begins to have feelings for him. One thing leads to another and their connection grows deeper and deeper. Now Susan must decide if she wants to stay in her stable, yet unfulfilling, marriage and risk losing her children for a second chance at love and happiness.

Degrees of Love is a realistic look at the difficulties in marriage and life that many women experience. Although Susan is successful in her career, and takes loving care of her boys, she lacks fulfillment in her marriage.

Lisa Slabach skillfully writes a down-to-earth, heart-rending realistic story that many women with similar lives will relate to. For women that love the family life and their children, but feel something is missing and desire something more in their marriage – there are no simple solutions.

Slabach draws the reader in right from the very start of the book and keeps them held captive throughout. She has created a tangled web in the framework of the storyline. The characters are fully developed with interesting personalities and with original, polished dialog between them. The plot is distinctive and unpredictable. With an ending that will not disappoint.
