Google has launched an updated version of Chrome for Android this week that offers faster video load times, a smoother playback experience and less battery drain.

In version 52, the dreaded pause before a video begins to load has been eliminated, making the wait-time for a video to play much shorter. Video is also now compatible with Data Saver Mode, which can save you up to 50 percent on data by showing a lightweight version of the video.

“Web video is huge, with over a billion hours played in Chrome every week on sites like Amazon, Facebook, The New York Times, Netflix and YouTube. Much of that is on mobile devices, and we want to make your viewing experience great,” Google’s Renganathan Ramamoorthy said in a blog post.

“The improvements will be most noticeable on short videos, which make up the majority of videos on the web. With more publishers and sites moving to HTML5, your video experience on Chrome will just keep getting better. Update Chrome on Android today and give it a spin.”

Similar changes are also on the way for Chrome desktop. Chrome 53 for Android is due out this fall.
