Wikileaks has released an e-mail filched from the Clinton campaign revealing Apple CEO Tim Cook and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates were both, at one time, considered as possible running mates for U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
A March 17 e-mail from campaign chairman John Podesta disclosed the “first cut of people to consider for VP.”
According to Gizimodo, which broke the story, the e-mail was sent to firstname.lastname@example.org which, apparently, is Clinton’s latest e-mail address.
“Cheryl, Robby, Jake, Huma, Jennifer and I also did a first cut of people to consider for VP,” Podesta wrote in the e-mail to Clinton. “I have organized names in rough food groups.”
The Clinton campaign has not verified if the e-mails are indeed authentic but, if they are, it shows the decision makers were considering business people rather than only politicians.
Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz and General Motors CEO Mary Barra were also on the list as was Gates’ wife, Melinda Gates — a well-known philanthropist with expertise in business and technology.
It is not known if Cook, Gates or the other businesspeople made the short list, or were even vetted to any extent.
Thus far, neither Cook nor Gates has confirmed or denied the rumors.
