Amazon Vows to Create 100,000 Full-Time Jobs in the U.S.

Amazon has pledged to bring more than 100,000 new full-time jobs with benefits to the United States over the next 18 months.

Jeff Bezos

The jobs will be open across the country to people of varying levels of experience, education and kill, Amazon said. Many of the job openings will be at the fulfillment centers that are currently under construction in Texas, California, Florida, New Jersey and “many other states across the country,” although there will be openings for engineers and software developers too.

“Innovation is one of our guiding principles at Amazon, and it’s created hundreds of thousands of American jobs. These jobs are not just in our Seattle headquarters or in Silicon Valley—they’re in our customer service network, fulfillment centers and other facilities in local communities throughout the country,” Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said.

“We plan to add another 100,000 new Amazonians across the company over the next 18 months as we open new fulfillment centers, and continue to invent in areas like cloud technology, machine learning, and advanced logistics.”

The news is in addition to Amazon’s announcement last year that its plan to hire and train 25,000 veterans and military spouses over the next five years.

The news comes just days after president-elect Donald Trump met with Alibaba executive chairman Jack Ma to discuss the creation of one million U.S. jobs.

“Alibaba will create one million U.S. jobs by enabling one million American small businesses and farmers to sell American goods to China and Asian consumers on the Alibaba platform,” the company said in a statement.

Although there were no specifics announced, Trump called the meeting “great,” adding that “Jack and I are going to do some great things.”
