Do-it-yourself has just come to home security, thanks to smart communications firm Ooma Inc.
The company, which unveiled its Ooma Home Monitoring system at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas last week, offers real-time notifications via phone, SMS, e-mail alert or in-app as well as the ability to call 911 remotely.
Designed to work with Ooma Telo, the company’s Smart home phone service, the system monitors the status of in-home sensors that keep track of such things as motion or water via an iOS or Android app. The Ooma Telo device can deliver voice announcements when a sensor is triggered as well as when ‘At Home’ and ‘Away’ modes are changed.
“Ooma’s unique hybrid cloud platform is ideally suited to enable new innovative services including our new Home Monitoring service,” Ooma CEO Eric Stang said. “Ooma Home Monitoring joins our recently announced Ooma Internet Security as two new Ooma-branded smart home services offered to our large base of Ooma Telo customers. Integrating Ooma Home Monitoring with Remote 911 gives our customers even greater security and convenience.”
Ooma Home Monitoring can support as many as 100 connected sensors, which work wirelessly, eliminating the need for professional installers.
All Ooma customers are to receive the Ooma Home Monitoring service for free for the first door/window, motion or water sensor. The water sensor retails for $29.99, the motion sensor for $34.99, and the door and window sensor for $24.99. Ooma Basic service customers can subscribe to Ooma Home Monitoring for $5.99 a month, while Premier service customers are handed the service for free as a part of their Premier service plan. Ooma Home Monitoring can now be pre-ordered from Amazon.com.
