Samsung’s newly-launched Chromebooks have been designed to be more compatible with Android apps installed from the Google Play store.
Samsung, which is showcasing its new Chromebook Plus and Chromebook Pro this week at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, said its partnership with Google to design the devices was a bid to bring the best of hardware and software innovation together.
The laptops, which have “the flexibility and versatility of a tablet,” are designed for Google Play, offering easy access to movies, books and music on the devices’ quad HD, 360-degree rotating touchscreen. The laptops also come with a built-in digitized pen.
“Since launching our first Chromebook over five years ago, we have continued to improve the product, developing a computer that not only fits into consumers’ lifestyles, but makes their lives easier, more mobile and more productive,” Samsung Electronics America vice-president of product marketing Alanna Cotton.
“With the Chromebook Plus and Pro, we’re partnering with Google to pair a sleek design with supreme flexibility, encouraging users to experience more with Google Play and Android apps, while continuing to provide simplicity, top-rated security and shareability inherent in Chromebooks.”
The new Chromebooks have 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage and batteries with an eight-hour life.
Samsung Chromebook Plus, which will feature an ARM processor, starts at $449 and will be available at major retailers in February. The Chromebook Pro, which will be powered by an Intel Core m3 processor, will be available later this spring.
