An Alphabet-owned research company today unveiled a new tool to help online publishers deal with toxic commentary.
Dubbed Perspective, the API uses machine learning to determine the impact a particular comment might have on a conversation. Perspective — which was created by Jigsaw, formerly known as Google Ideas — scores the comments both to aid moderators in doing their job and to help readers find relevant comments.
“What if you could see the potential impact of your writing?” reads the Perspective website. “We created an experiment using Perspective to illustrate when comments might be perceived as ‘toxic’ by others.”
