Amazon Web Services today debuted a video conferencing app aimed at the enterprise market.
Dubbed Amazon Chime, the chat service enables virtual meetings and group calls, taking on Microsoft-owned Skype and Google Hangouts.
Available for Windows, Mac, Android and iOS, Chime offers three different service levels: basic, plus and pro. The free basic plan offers video calls for up to two people as well as chat and chat rooms while the $2.50 monthly Chime Plus plan adds screen sharing and the ability to use a corporate directory. The Chime Pro plan permits video meetings for up to 100 people and the use of personal meeting URLs for $15 a month.
“It’s pretty hard to find people who actually like the technology they use for meetings today. Most meeting applications or services are hard to use, deliver bad audio and video, require constant switching between multiple tools to do everything they want, and are way too expensive,” AWS enterprise applications vice-president Gene Farrell said in a press release.
“Amazon Chime delivers frustration-free meetings, allowing users to be productive from anywhere. And with no ongoing maintenance or management fees, Amazon Chime is a great choice for companies that are looking for a solution to meetings that their employees will love to use.”
To start a meeting, Amazon Chime will call all participants. To join, meeting participants simply click a button in the app — meaning there is no annoying PIN code required. To deal with unwanted noise on calls, any attendee has the ability to mute a noisy line.
Amazon Chime offers synchronization across devices, enabling users to join a meeting from their desktop and then switch over to their Smartphone or tablet when on-the-go.
Use of Amazon Chime is as simple as downloading the application and submitting payment if not using the free version.
