If you needed proof Facebook is planning to provide original viewing content, look no further.
The social networking firm has hired MTV executive vice-president Mina Lefevre to head up a new project: the creation of original content. The move should come as no surprise as technology and media companies grapple for viewers and subscribers alike.
If Facebook can put out its own original content, it would build on Facebook’s push for video and live video.
In a post to her Facebook wall, Lefevre said she is “excited” to join Facebook as its head of development.
“I have always been drawn to the idea of building something and the idea of being part of the team that helps build Facebook’s original content ecosystem…well, that just seems like a dream,” she wrote. “I will miss everyone at MTV (old and new) and I hope our paths cross again… I have had the pleasure of working with some of the most talented people and can’t wait to continue that at Facebook.”
