Shareable lists are coming to Google’s Maps app.
As of today, you can create lists of places, share them with others and follow the lists of friends and family members all from the Google Maps app. The new functionality is available for both Android and iOS users.
“Is your bucket list etched in your memory, or scribbled on a dozen post-it notes scattered around your home? Have you ever promised out-of-town guests an email full of your favorite spots, only to never get around to clicking send?” Google said in a blog post. “With the millions of landmarks, businesses and other points of interest in Google Maps, there’s no shortage of places to try. Now that we’ve got the world mapped, it’s your turn to map your world with Lists — from local hotspots to bucket list destinations worlds away.”
To use the new tool, open the Google Maps app and find the restaurant or club you’ve been meaning to try. Simply tap on the place name followed by the save icon. You can add the venue to one of several pre-set lists such as ‘Want to Go’ or ‘Favorites’ or set up and name your own customized list. To access your lists, go to Your Places located in the side menu and then open the saved tab. Place icons will appear on the map as well.
It is easy to share lists via text, e-mail, social networks and popular messaging apps. Simply tap the share button to access a link to send to your friends. They can then tap ‘follow’ to pull up the list when it is needed.
