IBM today opened a $200-million global headquarters for its Watson Internet of Things (IoT) division in Munich, Germany.

The headquarters will be a place where IBM’s clients and partners can work with the company’s 1,000 IoT experts. Avnet, BNP Paribas, Capgemini and Tech Mahindra will have development teams at the new IBM center which will also “act as an innovation space” for EEBus, Europe’s leading IoT alliance.

“We have reached a tipping point with IoT innovation: we now have over 6,000 clients and partners around the world many of who are now wanting to join us in our new global Watson IoT center to co-innovate,” IBM Watson IoT general manager Harriet Green said. “Together we are building a new global IoT innovation ecosystem that will explore how cognitive and IoT technologies will transform industries and our daily lives.”

IBM also announced a partnership with Indiegogo and Arrow Electronics to collaborate on new Internet of Things (IoT) ideas.  The partnership combines IBM’s cognitive capabilities with Indiegogo’s entrepreneur platform and Arrow’s end-to-end technology design and production expertise in a bid to bring more IoT devices to market more quickly.

As part of the partnership, “qualified Indiegogo entrepreneurs will have no-charge access to IBM Watson IoT Platform via Bluemix for an unlimited amount of time, giving them access to more than 160 industry-leading cloud services to incorporate ready-to-use capabilities, such as artificial intelligence, Blockchain, advanced data analytics and cyber security into their latest IoT inventions,” the companies said in a press release. Qualified start-ups will also be granted access to IBM’s network of technical and industry expertise, education, mentoring and enterprise customers and business partners in a bid to bring new IoT products to market quickly.

The announcements didn’t stop there, however.

IBM has also announced a partnership with Bosch. The companies will collaborate on industrial IoT by making available to clients the Bosch IoT Suite on open standards-based IBM Bluemix and IBM Watson IoT Platform. The collaboration allows industrial clients to more efficiently update “millions” of IoT devices.
