Google wants to make sending and receiving payments a little bit easier.

Transfer-money_blog_mediumThe tech giant this week launched Google Wallet Gmail for Android. The free feature, which is currently available only to U.S. residents, is available via Gmail on the Web or Android.

“Whether you’re splitting a dinner bill or planning a group trip, you now have a fee-free way to work out the details and settle up without ever leaving the Gmail app on Android, just like you can already do on the Web,” Google product manager Sam Kansara said in a blog post. “Plus, you can exchange money with anyone—not just people with Gmail addresses.”

To send money in Gmail, tap on the attachment icon and then choose to either send or request money.

Recipients can receive or request money directly from the e-mail — no installations of a payment app are necessary. Those receiving a payment can choose to have the money go directly into their bank account as well.

Google Wallet offers the ability to send money on-the-go, store loyalty cards, use money-saving offers and easily view all Wallet activity. Users can securely send money to anyone residing in the U.S., as long as the person has an e-mail address. It is free to send money via one’s bank account or Google Wallet balance but a 2.9 percent transaction fee is charged to access funds from a linked credit or debit card. There are never any fees for the recipient.
