Jayden K Smith Facebook Warnings a Hoax

Another day another Facebook hoax.

The latest tall tale to make the rounds on the social networking site is the warning of a malicious friend request from a hacker know as Jayden K. Smith. According to the warnings being blasted across Facebook anyone who accepts the friend request grants the hacker access to your devices and online accounts.

Thank goodness for Snopes. The site, which is THE Internet reference source for pouring cold water on myths and other misinformation, posted an article this week in response to the Jayden K. Smith hoax.

“Accepting a Facebook friend request from a stranger will not provide hackers with access to your computer and online accounts,” Snopes said, adding the Jayden K. Smith rumor is yet another variation of a long-running hoax.

“Variants of these messages are circulated endlessly, with different names swapped in and out as various pranksters decide to play jokes on people they know by inserting their acquaintances’ names and addresses into the warning in place of the existing information.”

Here’s a look at just a few of the hoaxes in circulation on Facebook, with the Jayden K. Smith message being the most recent.

While these types of messages have no truth to them, Snopes does advise caution when dealing with suspicious e-mail messages or links posted on Facebook.
