Luxury swimming pool inspiration from your favorite celebrities

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

It takes an extra lavish swimming pool to offer some peace and quiet in the busy life of celebrities, and make no mistake, your favorite Hollywood A-listers and musicians have spared no money or creative efforts to build the most extravagant, luxurious, envy-inducing swimming pools in their homes. From futuristic infinity pools in the heart of Beverly Hills to lush waterscape retreats away from the crowd, these celebrity swimming pool designs will give you some serious inspiration for your dream home.

Space is everything

The homes of celebrities aren’t exactly modest in terms of size, so it goes without saying that the main ingredient in designing the perfect, jaw-dropping, celebrity-inspired pool is having quite a few square feet available – much more than the average swimming pool, of course. How many square feet, to be more precise? Well, California winemaker Robert Mondavi is the proud owner of an indoor swimming pool that measures no less than 50 ft. Think that is large? Texas billionaire and energy magnate Kelcy Warren has an entire aquatic center of 12,000 square feet, which includes a pool and a spa.

Careful positioning

If you analyze celebrity real estate trends in hot spots such as Miami, Malibu or Beverly Hills, you’ll see that one of the main factors that drives them to spend millions on a property is its positioning. Sometimes, the views that the house offers are more important than the house itself. Former Hollywood couple Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, for instance, invested in the renovation of a 1950 house purely because of the views. As for the pool placement, it is always in the most scenic spot. Rob Lowe’s pool in Southern California has overlooks the mountains, while Jaime L. Curtis, who grew up near the ocean, looked for the same serene views when designing a pool for her children. Designer Ralph Lauren wanted a personal retreat right in the heart of civilization, so this high tech New York house features an impressive swimming pool surrounded by pines.

But not all celebrities want their pools to offer a natural view: Vera Wang’s swimming pool overlooks the Beverly Hills skyline and Frank Sinatra’s Country Club residence was right next to a golf course!

Sleek, custom designs

If you’re thinking of incorporating the most glamorous, avant-garde, outstanding or simply opulent pool into your house, celebrity homes are the best place to look for inspiration. Stars like Cher, Jennifer Aniston and Adam Lavine are known to collaborate with some of the world’s biggest designers and architects to create royalty-worthy swimming pools. In terms of design trends nothing clear seems to stand out expect for an obvious penchant for glamour, because each celeb family has their perks and unique styles: Roman, Renaissance influences, with the occasional minimalist design.

What does this teach us? That, in spite of what experts tell us about swimming pool trends, personality and uniqueness matter even more. In designing your dream pool and your dream home for that matter, you have the same freedom of expression as celebs. Don’t be afraid to incorporate vintage aspects in your home pool, nor to mix the old with the new. As long as the two are seamlessly integrated, the contrast will look all the more appealing.

Landscaping

Without proper landscaping, even the most expensive swimming pool are nothing but large, charmless bodies of water and cement. This is why in addition to swimming pool designers, celebrities also work with professional landscape artists to add different elements around the swimming pool. In the same endeavor to recreated natural landscapes, most stars focus on greenery such as tress, bushes and flowers, complemented by stone or granite inserts. Ed Blissard, Daniel Busbin and Brad Meumann are just some of the most prestigious names in landscape design and their collaboration with celebrities gave birth to some fine architectural accomplishments.

Glamorous lighting

No poolside celeb gettogether is possible without fancy lighting, be it in the form of standalone lighting units or lights incorporated into pool. One of the most popular ideas is to place lights on the pool floor, so that the water changes color at night. Now that’s a way to enjoy a good pool party until the sun comes up!

Hot Tubs & Spas

Large exterior pools may look amazing, but not even celebs can do something about the elements. To enjoy the benefits of having a pool in the cold season, almost all celebrities have hot tubs and home spas that stay warm all the time and provide some much-needed relaxation after the most stressful times. When it comes to hut tubs, the European design has been the most popular choice for years, with the occasional notable mention of Zen, Asian-inspired designs.

Designer outdoor furniture

When they don’t float in the pools on their inflatable flamingos, celebs do love to relax right outside. And what complements a lavish swimming pool better that extravagant designer furniture?  Chaise-longs are obviously a must, but think beyond that: actress Diane Keaton has a fireplace, barbecue and cabin right next to the swimming pool. And, while they might not be exclusive to affluent families, or extremely unattainable, outdoor kitchens installed right next to pools are a great idea to combine luxury with practicality.

Indoor swimming pools

When Business Insider published a top of the most luxurious indoor swimming pools, it came as no surprise most of them were either celebrity owned or within celebrity budget.  Situated mostly in areas that don’t get a lot of sunshine, such as Illinois, Switzerland, Norway or Alaska, these pools have what it takes to impress the elite: opulent vintage designs, luxury amenities, water slides, indoor waterfalls and, of course, they go on and on for dozens of square feet.

High tech entertainment

To top off the list of luxury swimming pool features, we have to talk about high tech entertainment: huge flat screen TVs, speakers, surround systems, the whole lot. The former Kardashian residence in Miami had a pool with underwater speakers and the installation of remote-controlled LED light effects has already become mainstream.
