US, ARAB ALLIES HIT IS STRONGHOLDS IN SYRIA, IRAQ

Combined U.S.- Arab airstrikes hit Islamic State group military strongholds in Syria and Iraq as a simultaneous U.S. strike attacked an al-Qaida cell with “significant explosives skills” said to be plotting attacks on the U.S. and elswhere.

Gen. Martin Dempsey, said the U.S. and its Arab allies achieved their aim of showing the extremists that their savage attacks will not go unanswered.

The U.S. and five Arab nations attacked the Islamic State group’s headquarters in eastern Syria in nighttime raids using land- and sea-based U.S. aircraft as well as Tomahawk cruise missiles.

SYRIA SAYS WASHINGTON INFORMED IT BEFORE STRIKES

Syria said Washington informed President Bashar Assad’s government of imminent U.S. airstrikes against the Islamic State group, hours before an American-led military coalition pounded the extremists’ strongholds across northern and eastern Syria.

The opening salvo in the aerial operation against the Islamic State group marks the start of what President Barack Obama has warned will be a lengthy campaign that aims to degrade and ultimately defeat the extremists spanning the Syria-Iraq border.

Israel downs Syrian warplane it says violated its Golan airspace

Israel shot down a Syrian warplane on Tuesday, saying the aircraft crossed the battle lines of Syria’s civil war and flew over the Israeli-held Golan Heights, perhaps by accident.

The incident coincided with but did not appear to be directly related to air strikes the United States and Gulf Arab allies mounted on Islamic State strongholds in Syria.

U.S. Treasury moves against tax-avoidance ‘inversion’ deals

Moving against tax avoidance by corporations, the US took several actions on to curb “inversion” deals that allow companies to escape U.S. taxes by reincorporating abroad.

The Treasury Department announced new rules, effective immediately, that will reduce the tax benefits available to companies that have inverted, while also making new inversions more difficult to do and less potentially rewarding.

UN to leaders: Set ‘new course’ on climate change

United Nations Secretary-General s challenging more than 100 world leaders at a climate summit to set a new course for a warming world and reverse the rise of heat-trapping gases.

Tuesday’s one-day summit at the annual U.N. General Assembly gathering of world leaders is a forum for non-binding pledges. It was designed to lay the groundwork for a new global treaty to tackle climate change due at the end of next year.

Mean while – they continue to ignor sceintific proof contray to global waming.

California’s King fire continues to rage

The King fire, which has spread across so many acres in drought-dried Northern California that it’s now larger than several major American cities, including Atlanta, Las Vegas, Philadelphia and Portland.

The King fire covered 87,592 acres and was only 18 percent contained. But crews were bracing for unfavorable conditions, including “strong, erratic winds similar to when the blaze doubled in size a week ago.”
