WASHINGTON –- Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Archbishop John J. Myers of Newark, New Jersey, and named Cardinal-designate Joseph W. Tobin of Indianapolis to succeed him.

Archbishop Myers, Newark's archbishop since 2001, is 75, the age at which canon law requires bishops to turn in their resignation to the pope.
